Gut Bacteria

I am going to do my sister's raw garlic protocol to eliminate bad bacteria in my gut, and have started today (I already use probiotics, just need to increase prebiotics).

I am particularly hopeful by doing the raw garlic both pre- and post sleeving that it will have a significant beneficial effect (on my ME/CFS), particularly as sleeving affects the gut biota through induced changes in the gut microbial community via FXE signalling pathways.

I have started the raw garlic.


Just started 1 clove/day, can have 1-2.

Preferably either Australian or NZ garlic, as the Chinese garlic may have been treated or irradiated so my sister says.


Minced, raw (but eaten with something as rough on stomach) and eaten within about 10 mins of mincing - that's apparently how long the allicin (the active antimicrobial component) is good for.


I ask her if I can just chop it up and swallow it with water.

I've ordered from the UK, and it has arrived (got opened by Customs *snigger*!), some "Alliforce" dietary supplements containing allicin powder extract.



I am planning on taking these post-op, maybe for a week pre-op as well, to nudge out the bad bacteria.

WELCOME TO 2015!!!
2015 for me, is going to the "The Year of Altered Gut Biota"
So there!

What am I hoping to lose?
Lurking autoimmune disease.

What am I hoping to gain?
Improved health.

How am I going to do it?
Garlic - I am just using freshly crushed at the moment but will be using allicin - "Alliforce" to kill off bad bugs
Low carbohydrate, in particular avoiding sugar.
Intense probiotic intake.

Gastric sleeve - booked 2nd Feb!!!

This morning has started well.
I used part of the first batch of yoghurt (Greek - it was yum!!) from my new Easiyo Yoghurt maker - (what a great buy that was! If I had known it was that easy, I would have got one sooner/scored one from an Op Shop. I have also subsequently found out that I don't need the Easiyo sachets - can just use part of them as starters. I could also try adding some out of date sample baby formula powder from my "Baby" Clinics for added vitamins etc.)
and made a brew up using 150 gm skimmed milk powder, 1/4 teaspoon inulin and the contents of my probiotic capsules (Lactobacillus plantarum, L. acidophilus, Bifidobacterium lactis, Saccharomyces cerevisiae (boulardii)) + bovine colostrum.
In 8 hours it will be ready!

Yoghurt vs Kefir

Legend tells that both yoghurt and Kefir were first cultured around Mount Elbrus in the Caucasus mountain ranges. Y

Yoghurt was born when milk in the warmer lower valleys came into contact with thermophylic bacteria.

Kefir, only occurred in the cooler higher slopes of the mountains, requiring 50% lower temperatures, while taking 3 times longer than yoghurt to ferment and coagulate. These hardy, mesophylic bacteria, remarkably, clustered, forming kefir grains, a natural probiotic able to reach the GI tract, a feat that yoghurt cultures cannot match since most of which do not survive the stomach's acid baths.

PS: Many commercially produced yoghurts are pasteurised before bottling to extend their shelf life. This makes them completely ineffective as the heat kills the good bacteria.

Prevention for Our Children-Its All in the Gut

The coconut kefir was too rich by itself so I made it into a smoothie with fresh pineapple, protein powder, home made probiotic yoghurt and water.
Tasted great, but I got dumping syndrome! Nasty!

I then went on to make coconut water kefir.
It was OK.

Next I am going to do ginger beer water kefir. Now that should be nice!
