    very worried

has anyone been to a pyschologist and they have said that you should wait for the surgery because you are depressed. then she told me that she is recommending that i am severly depressed and should not have the surgery at this point in time in her letter to the surgeon. i rang the surgeon and told the nurse that the pyschologist is faxing over her letter and saying that i am severly depressed and the nurse said that most people are depressed and that i will still have the surgery but i am now pissed about what the psychologist said and she new this in our last session and she wants me to come to my next appointment and continue to see me long term but i dont know i have met with her for 3 sessions so far i think i have lost respect for her or am i over reacting. i like her and she was helping me and i felt like we had a connection but now i dont know

    Townsville or Brisbane ??

hello i have just read your post and thought i would reply with what i know. i am going to be banded in 3 weeks in cairns, thats were i live, when i was looking for a surgeon i made enquiries with cairns who only has one surgeon, townsville which from memory has 3 surgeons and brisbane but after many phone calls i found that it doesnt really matter because all surgeons are qualified and have before and after care specialists. i have had no problems with planning before and after op care, so i personally chose to stay local, the only thing you could probably consider is how far do you want to travel to see specialists and also how much time will it take you to go home after the op and what about the fills. what part of outback qld are you in.

    physcologist

hello i am due to have my lapband surgery in 7 weeks, the surgeons office gave me a list of specialist i need to see in prep for this and one of them is a physcologist. i have just started seeing a physcologist for other personal reasons and would like to continue to see her, the office said i need to see their physcologist and can only continue to see mine if she is familiar with lapbanding. i asked her and she does know about the procedure and she deals with other clients that have eating disorders so she is not oblivious to lapbanding. could everyone please tell me what they saw a physcologist for and if they went with their own or the surgeons choice.

    hello it's me again

hello one thing i have noticed with lapbanding forums is that the same question asked over and over again is about the cost of surgery and/or private health insurance, maybe a permanent topic for this would answer alot of peoples questions. just a thought. On a more selfish note could we please have a Cairns section in Queensland for little (big) old me.

    Band not working

hi i have not had banding done yet, soon though. i was talking to someone that has had a band though and they had a very similiar problem after she had a baby, and from what i can remember it was happening because the band had moved but her surgeon was not worried about her problem and also was advising of alternative surgery treatments, she found a doctor that was as concerned as her (not that easy sometimes) and they sent her for xrays and this revealed that the band had moved and because of the position of the band when they added the fill it would restrict her completly, i dont remember the outcome fully but she ended up finding another lapband surgeon who removed the band and put a new one in and she lost all her weight. this was years ago and in a major city, if you live in a regional city like me you may only have one surgeon but i would do the rounds of doctors until you come across one that will help you. it took my about a year and half to find a good doctor but worth it in the end. do you have access to a physcologist (sorry about spelling) because medicare have a scheme called Mental Health Plan (i know it sounds bad) were you can go to your doctor and they do a referral to a physcologist of your choice or theirs and you can get 12 subsidised visits per 12 mnths, its about 70-80% rebate from medicare but a doctor has to refer you as they will know a good physcologist that will be under this scheme, you pay at each visit and medicare reimburse you. you can call medicare direct and they will tell you about it, they also have a program for a dietician that program is called E.P.C. and you get 5 visits per 12 mnths 70-80% reimbursement on the cost of a session, maybe worth a talk to a doctor about. you know i have had alot of ups and downs with surgery i had on xmas day 2006(see introductions) but i am finaly getting my life together and you have to remember that you will too, i know it seems like life is against us but if life was easy then it would be boring, you are strong and you will figure this problem out in the end, keep trying, ring people, hound people, ring the surgeon again and again, this is your body and you have a right to be concerned about it, who cares if people get annoyed or angry just keep pushing for someone to help you, ring another surgeon even if its in another city or state, i do all the time, who cares if you need the help then you will eventually find it and none of this what so ever is your fault, it has just happened because it can no other reason.keep posting on this site or even to me personally if you want, their are people who care and will help you.

    Hello

Firstly thank you to Dave for the time and effort of creating this site, it is great. Well i am to be banded on 22 june after waiting a year for my private health insurance to "mature". I am self employed, married, no children, 34 yrs old and too fat, ha ha. i had a bowel rupture due to diverticulitis on xmas eve 2006 and ended up having major surgery xmas day, i have stacked on the weight due to a colostomy from the surgery and also a stomal hernia so lap banding was really the only option for me to loose weight and a lot of it. i am very excited about the lapbanding, that was until my surgeon's nurse said that i will be the first person the surgeon has ever lapbanded with a colostomy, note my fingers cross when i repeat that aloud, and i could be a test case for this procedure, ya, but besides that i have to be careful with my diet for obvious reasons pre and op surgery but fine with everything else, note fingers crossed again. Please feel free to talk or ask me about anything because i will be asking away.
