  2. feeling groovy.....

wow here I am looking back at my profile 5 years down the track...... today  I am day 6 post op Fleur de lis tummy tuck/ brachioplasty  What a ride this has been.

I am proud and sore haha... Every part of this journey has been a massive learning and growing experience and I wouldn't change it for the world.

for those just starting this journey ...... good for you and hang in there because it is a bumpy ride that will challenge and test you but you have made this decision, so know you are strong enough to get through it ...

    All the best :)

  3. 12 month sleeve anniversary - What a year!

Today marks the 12 month anniversary of my sleeve surgery and I am finding it hard to comprehend the immense changes that have occurred in my life in such a short period of time. I'm also celebrating my decision to take that HUGE step to commit to weight loss surgery. I dithered for 12 months before committing to surgery and managed to eat my way through a truck load of rubbish food and gain an additional 10kg while I prevaricated but I did finally make the decision and I have not had a single regret. I made the decision to be a secret sleever and I have stuck to that decision. Only my family and close friends are aware that I have had WLS and even though it has been tricky at times, I am glad that I took that decision. (long story...)

So, what changes am I celebrating?

Starting weight: 138 kg        Weight today: 90.7kg     A loss of 47.3kg

BMI: 46.6       Today: 30.9 (still in the obese range dammit!!!)

Clothing size: 24 pants and 26/28 tops           Today: 14/16 pants and 16/18 tops

    Bra size: 26 G        Today: 16E

Just as important are the changes to my health, fitness, self confidence and self worth.

I am so pleased for you, for all your dedication, and your resulting and outstanding  achievements.  Well done!

For those folk out there who have done their prior research before hand, and have chosen to undertake their chosen  method of Weight Loss Surgery (WLS), and who have invested in it - lifestyle, future, $$$s, time, heart and soul etc;  given it "their best shot", and realise that whatever form of WLS that they undertake;  realise that it is "just a tool".  That THEY need to realise "that it is just a tool".  And to be 'accountable'.

This, IMHO, separates those folk who totally take on board everything - and whom don't.  Those who don't, IMHO, become complacent,  such as those who have undertaken WLS and who have then thrown their hands up and stated that "The Obera"/"Gastric Band"/"Gastric Sleeve"/ "Gastric Bypass"  "Didn't work for me:"  IMHO, these are the folks who chose not to be accountable.

IMHO, the first year post-op (sleeve gastrectromy) is outstandingly remarkable.

Gob-smacking.    Amazing in what you achieve weight loss/clothing size-wise.  You, and me.

Then the 2nd year post-op.  You gotta work harder.

Then into third year post-op ...

IMHO - it is better to look forward (and set goals) than to look back.

IMHO. this is where complacency can set it in.  (You know?  when you think that diet-wise "I can just do this", "I can just do that".  And then you slide up a clothing size-or more?  And you have held onto clothes from sizes above that ... Yes, I have done that, post-op.)  I am not promoting certain forums, but I started up one early this year called "Accountability"  when I had to be.  Accountable.

Me?  I am only a short-arse, Height of the average sized 12 year old child.

And I have varied  from my heaviest (BMI 35.something in 2000, and size 18) to a BMI of around 24-25 by following a low-carb diet in 2002-3, size ?10?); and gained it back again ... :(  (I had a huge appetite and intake).

Anywhoo, back up to about a size 14 (weight 74 kg, and BMI 32. something) when I had my appointment with my GP, and then the Bariatric GP and Surgeon December 2015  (I had also a lot of co-mordities ... ).

Well, I did a huge amount of research, and had 'the gastric sleeve' early Feb 2015.  No regrets.

I have given away HEAPS of clothes.  I am so happy to do this for folks who have had Weight Loss Surgery (WLS) and are rapidly undergoing weight and size changes.  I have  also passed on clothes to folks who I have met on this forum, and on others.   Not to mention in my own private life.  I am also an Op Shop haunter.  And I appreciate what I pick up from them  (I am "unwaged").

Your pre-loved clothes will be much appreciated by someone.  "Share the love". Give them away.  Ditch them.  They will not be part of your new life post bariatric surgery.  Don't look back.  Look forward!

Me?  I am now into my third year post-op gastric sleeve, and  - keeping in mind I am only a short-arse -  Target's and "Witchery" (Op Shop lol)  womens size 4 pants are too big in the waist for me.  Top-wise, I am probably about a womens size 6.  'Cos I am so short, I find that kids clothes suit me better.  Boys - age 8-10, girls age 10-12.  This is from someone who was a women's size 18 ...

But weight-wise/clothes-wise.  Everyday, every meal, every craving.  I HAVE to make the choice as to which is best for me nutritionally, low-carb; and which would suit my craving.

I KNOW that there is a woman out there who would totally appreciate the clothes that you are going to pass on.

This is my comment on another post:  http://www.bandingtogether.com.au/community/topic/18677-168kg-clothes-to-throw-or-keep/#comment-205837

Wishing you all the best.  And I am so proud of you.  What you have achieved  and your "stickability".

  4. Ick.  I have been horribly ill and bed-ridden for the last three weeks.  Turns out that it was an "Adverse Reaction" to Lyrica, a medication I am on for Fibromyalgia nerve pain.  Now weaning off under GP supervision.

  5. feeling sad, seems to be now that I have lost weight, I have also lost a friend :-(

Oh dondon!  I am so sorry :(  It's amazing how dynamics change - maybe before your weight loss your friend (sad as it is) felt superior to you, and now that person feels threatened.    I totally agree with DavidR:  "dondon, just try to remember a true friend wouldn't abandon you - they would celebrate you. You deserve a better friend."

      Big hugs,

      from us out here xxx

You mean a real life friend?  :(

Or do you mean  your  "identity" - maybe overweight to you meant security/comfort?

      Packed your bag yet?

Wishing you and your Mum all the best!  Is she on this forum?

I am so pleased that you are in this together - you will be able to give each other LOTS of support and encouragement!  - share recipes, exercise together etc etc (just remember - it is not a race to lose weight.  You are two totally completely different people, and your Mum is xxx number of years older than you with XXX  number of years of yo-yo weight loss and gain.  Kudos to her!)

I have a blip on my proposed surgery for this time next week, unrelated to surgery (popped up some new lymph nodes in my neck, but ultrasound today shows that they aren't sinister - PHEW!!!!  I WAS stressing!!!).

      All the best!

Roll on Monday for you eh!

Well, the Plastic Surgeon I was going to go with (Sam Cunneen), I'm not now as his receptionist had stuffed up the quote (well and truly) - despite me ringing to make sure, so with another $4000.00 increase in his fees, and about $1,500.00 for the Anaesthetist, they have priced themselves out.  I contacted the folk that I was originally going to go with (Sculpt), and I've lost my 27th November booking for surgery, so now 4th December. Was going to be 17th November *sob sob*.  Ah well, it's given me a bit more time to tone my arms more!  (I haven't got any bum left to tone lol!)

  23. I'm back from Bali. For a first timer, I reckon I did alright! Loved the people and the food! Went everywhere and did everything. Even had a cuddle with an orangutan, too cute! I found the food light and healthy which went great with my band. Exercise was swimming and some walking. I found the roads quite primitive and difficult to walk on but hey, absolutely nothing to complain about, it was gorgeous and warm too! Oh and shopping, umm had to buy more bags to carry the shopping home ha! Nice to home but what a wonderful place. x
