  1. Back again. My weight is 57kgs and I have hovered between 57 and 57.8kgs since last year. 

    So much has happened but the biggest one is getting a new job. Before the band I did not have the confidence to even look for another position even though I had the qualifications. 

    So 2018 - 2019 summed up is new me,  new job, new clothes and a much happier person who still puts in all the hard work to keep my best friend (the band) happy. 

    I have no regrets having it put in but i also knew it wasn't an easy fix. 

    All the handers out there don't give up. Your hard work will eventually pay off

    How are you going?

    Had my 3 year check up



    Neck 34cm, waist 103cm, hips 120cm



    Neck 32cm, waist 79cm, hips 98cm.

    I haven't had a fill in 18 months and don't feel I need one.

    Treat your weight loss tool right and it will do the same for you.

    Keep at it and you will be on your way to a healthier you.

    Went in for a check up at the bariatric surgery.


    Weight 81.4kgs,

    Neck 34cm, waist 103cm, hips 120cm


    Weight 58.1kgs

    Neck 32cm, waist 79cm , hips 98cm.

    And feeling so much healthier and happier.  

    The hot weather has been tightening the band but have been having cold protien shakes. When I eat I always use my portion plates or if I am out I use a bread and butter plate.

    Cannot stress enough it is only a tool to help you. You still have to do the hard work.

  4. Next month will be 3 years since I was banded. My current weight is 57.6. I have I have had some really terrible times (thank goodness not that often) but the change in me from outside and especially the inside it is so worth it. I have not had a fill in over a year and a half and I don't feel the need to have one. My doctor gave me a goal weight and I lost an extra 5kgs. 

    I have kept at it from day one and continued to do so. But hey that's life. I am one of the millions of people who will never be naturally skinny and have accepted that I never will be. So my best friend (the band) and I will always have a very close relationship.

  5. @Mouse-mum remember it is major surgery don't push yourself. I was a fat fit person, that makes sense, but slowly went back to my exercise program. It took about a month.  I started losing 2kgs a week. The slower the better. Once you add more fitness into your routine the weight will come off as long as you are doing the right thing. 

    @KAZBAA be patient everyone is different. There were times when I plateaued even when I was doing everything I was supposed to do but I kept at it. My start weight was 81.4. I weighed myself today I am 58.3.

  6. I come back on here every few months. Still a size 10 current weight 58.8. I still work at it, exercise and watch what I  eat. If I over do it I always pull back the next few days. 

    Have 2 weddings and 3 parties coming up and cannot wait to dress up and party!

    The band has given me a new lease on life and I am loving it. 

    Yesterday I ate bbq chop. Took me ages to eat it and when it was enough the band let me know I had to stop and I listened. 

    Keep up the good work banders. The rewards are so worth it.

  7. Have been travelling really well. But is only because I have put in the effort. My current weight is 58.6. I really believe that no matter which wls you choose you have to be in the right headspace first for it to be a success. Not for a second did I sit and say "I've got the band now, I  don't have to do anything and it's going to be easy". It has been easier with the band but I have worked hard towards my goal.

    Have a wedding next year and was able to go to the clearance rack pick a beautiful dress at a third of the price. Have had to throw out all of my shoes because my feet have shrunk.

    I did find my hair was thinning so after some research found that Nioxin System 4 (recommended by other banders) was the way to go. I must say after using it for 2 weeks I noticed a huge difference to my hair. It looks healthier and there is less breakage

    I look at my band as a good friend who reminds me when to stop eating. 

    To all banders keep up the good work. And if you fall off the wagon (as I have done many times) we are human just dust yourself off and start where you left off. Don't give up.

  8. Getting ready for work is a hectic time for anyone but this morning I stopped for a minute and really had a good look at myself. I can't believe what a huge difference the band has made. I cannot be happier. Although I reached and passed my goal the long hard slog continues. I know whether I have a band or a sleeve I will always have the same issues if I don't watch what I eat. That is me. But the happiness I feel inside is so worth my fight against any weight gain. As of this morning I am 59.3.

  9. Thank you Denzel. A positive attitude is 3/4 of the battle. Accepting that you have to make a lifestyle change is also important. I have dieted for over 40 years and I know my body. I have accepted that with or without the band I will never be able to eat what I want and stay at a healthy weight range. I did a lot of research and made the decision to have it and I have made sure it worked. It has been hard work but seeing results is so rewarding.

    The main thing I always remember is that it is a tool and not a magic fix I still have to do all the work.

  10. It has now been 2 years since I was banded and I am so glad I went through with it.

    I have now added walks into my exercise routine.  My weight has stabilized at 59.1 but I have lost 23cm around my hips and 20cm waist.

    I am still as size 10 and am very focused on staying there. 

    I have had a ball buying clothes and had to throw my other shoes away because even my foot size has decreased.

    It has not been an easy road but it has been worth it.  The maintaining part of it is really hard work because it is so easy to slip into old habits.  But I see old photos of where I was and where I am now and it only makes me more determined to keep on going. 

    I always knew the band was a tool to help me and I still had to do the hard work.

  11. Have read some real horror stories about lapband and I really feel for those that have gone through so much pain. But for me it has been a godsend. I had tried everything under the sun.  From weight watchers, packaged food and diet pills.  Nothing worked.  Even now after 19 months after surgery I could not be happier.  I went to the same deli I have been going to for years.  One of the girls said that she only knew who I was from my order.  She and so many others have told me I am unrecognizable now.  I went to an all you can eat restaurant and the most painful thing was that I paid $30 but only ate about $1.50 worth of food.  But I have accepted that this is the way things have to be if I want to be healthy and happy. 

    Don't get me wrong there have been moments when I have thought I wouldn't make it to the bathroom but they are not very frequent as I now know when to stop and what I can eat.  These days I can eat almost everything as long as they are small bites and chewed properly so I am not missing out on much.

    Before this life changing experience, if I received and invitation I would stress out and not want to go because I couldn't find any clothes that fit properly. My pjs,dressing gown and tv were my best friends You should hear the woo hoo's now when I get invited to anything. 

    So anyone considering lapband please research as much as possible.  I went to Prof Paul O'Brien and I have to travel an hour to the clinic every time I go but it is so worth it. I never miss an appointment. Going there helps me keep focused the staff there always celebrate every milestone I achieve as if it was their own. 

    For those who are succeeding in your journey well done keep up the great work and for those who are struggling don't give up.  As the guys at the gym say "to lose weight it is 20% exercise and 80% what you eat"

    PS went from a size 14-16 to a 10

  12. I have  discovered how to get veggies, meat and chicken into my diet. The slow cooker! Today I made chicken and spring vegetable stew. The veggies and chicken were soft enough to eat without any problems. It is also great for any meat. Because it's slow cooked there is so much flavor without using butter or oil and there are millions of recipes on the net. I am always looking for healthy food options that feed the whole family.

    When the Dr told me that he expects me to get to 63 kgs I felt like saying "keep dreaming" I am now 58.9 and couldn't be happier

  13. Have had the band for 18 months. I hover between 59.5 and 60kgs. I very rarely go over the 60kgs but of I do it is by 1gram and I lose it straight away. I have always battled my weight and when I got to goal thought "I've done it now I can relax" only to put it all on plus more. I am so used to dieting all the time I thought once I reached my goal I would have nothing to aim for. How wrong was I. Maintaining needs just as much attention if not more.  The band has made a huge difference. You need to take care of it and it will take care of you. Nothing beats the compliments you get and achieving the things you want to do. But most of all the happiness and confidence  you feel that comes from within is just the best.

  14. One year on and went for my check up.

    Start weight was 81.5 now 59.6

    Lost 2cm around from my neck 

    Lost 19cm off my hips and 19cm off my waist.

    BMI was 38 now 27

    Had a blood test done. Fatty liver has disappeared and everything else is normal.

    I did let myself go a little bit over Christmas and the weight slowly started to creep on so I put the brakes on really fast and lost what I gained.

    I put in a lot of effort to get to this point it didn't just happen. The band is a tool to help you not a magic fix.

    I had my lapband done Paul O'Brien in Jan 2016  and cannot be happier. I lost 22kgs by September this year. Went from a size 14-16 to a size 10. I have changed so much people don't recognize me and walk straight pass me.

    I did a lot of research and the most important thing I found was the band is a tool to help your weight loss. You still have to do all the work. I followed the eight golden rules and even then I had a few stuck moments. But that was my fault I forgot to chew my food. There were days I gained a 100 grams or so but I wasn't discouraged. I took it as the scales telling me to think about what I am putting in my mouth. Also exercising plays a huge role.

    Have a positive attitude and if you really want this you can do it.

  16. Well it has been almost 11 months and I have lost 22kgs. I reached my goal in September so I been maintaining ever since.  My face and body have changed so much that people don't recognize me and I have been told many times I look 10 years younger. I have more confidence and feel so much better from the inside. 

    I did have one awful stuck moment and a few gulps of cold coke fixed that. Again that was my fault for forgetting to chew. 

    For the band had been a positive experience.

  17. I was patient when my body plateaued and things finally started moving.  I have now lost 20kgs.  I have had people walk straight past me in because they hadn't recognized me. I get complimented everyday and it is a great feeling. 

    I had to buy new jeans and pants and went from a size 14-16 to a size 10. And even a dress I tried on today was a size 10 and it fit perfectly. 

    I still sometimes forget to chew properly and then I suffer the consequences.  I have learnt when not to eat that last bite. I did have a cheese burger a few months ago and it took me 45 minutes to eat it and I did not have any dinner that night. I took small bites and chewed every bite until it was mush in my mouth and waited 1 min before the next bite. 

    I have no regrets getting the band.  I don't miss food because there are so many benefits that come with losing all that weight.

  18. I have hit a plateau and I am finding it hard to lose the last kilo.  But I am not discouraged as I always look at how much I have lost already.

    I have been invited to a wedding and for the first time in years I am looking forward to going.  My life has changed so much in the last 8 months.  I never wanted to go out I was happy to stay home and watch movies.  Not any more.  I can't wait for summer and go out and enjoy life.  Buying clothes is so much fun now.  I usually go to the same shops and know the shop assistants and they are all commenting on my weight loss.  Not to mention the health benefits.  I am now sleeping more soundly because I don't snore anymore.

    As I have said before.  I have finally accepted I will never be able to eat anything I want and not put on weight.  I have to change my lifestyle to keep my weight down.  I honestly don't mind because I am happy.

  19. Went to the gym today and someone I hadn't seen for a while said to me "You are tiny!"

    That was music in my ears.  I never thought someone would ever say that to me.  As of today I weigh 64.3 and still going.

    It has not been easy but has been easier with the band.  I have put a lot of hard work into myself.  Watching my food and exercising everyday. If there is no class I like at the gym I make sure I go for a walk that day and I always aim for 10,000 steps a day.  If I do more it is a bonus.

  20. Haven't been on here for a while because I have been busy shopping for new clothes and enjoying all the things I haven't been able to do for a very long time. For the first time in years I open my wardrobe and can't make up mind what to wear because all my clothes now fit.  I threw away 3 garbage bags of fat clothes and it felt so good. For the first time in 26 years I have walked into Sportsgirl and the jumper I bought was a small.

    I am now 65.2kgs and couldn't be happier.  I still need to lose 4 more kgs to get to where I want to be. Lots of people are now commenting and  I think the best one would have to be that I look 10 years younger.

    Have had many ups and downs with my weight loss but I always look at the big picture.  If I gain anything I always weigh it up against how much I have already lost.  I am more determined than ever to get to my goal weight.

    I am going well, thanks for asking. I had one awful stuck moment and it was totally my fault.  I forgot to chew properly.

    The band has been very good for me.  I have gone from 81.4 to 67.4.  I have now started to enjoy shopping for clothes and going out again.  The best part is that a lot of people are now starting to comment on how much weight I have lost and I can see my cheek bones.  I am really happy for the first time in ages. I used to dread getting an invitation to  anywhere but not anymore.  If you follow the 8 golden rules you will be fine.
