    Hello Tasmanians!

yep only 2 days to go and I am starting to get quite nervous! I know I am doing the right thing, its just my silly head getting the better of me again lol Whenever my nerves kick in too bad though I have been looking at before and after pics on Youtube of banding patients, its all the inspiration I need. This morning I looked in the mirror and said to myself "You will never look this way again"...it was quite an "ahh" moment I am doing my stocking up of recovery items tomorrow, Blockbuster is on the list to get a few box sets to see me through the "resting stage" To be honest I have had a few "last suppers" over the last week, its my way of mentally getting through the four weeks of liquids I have coming up lol. Tomorrow night though I am having a big roast meal with all the trimmings, just love my roast vegies. I am starting to wish I had of gone to see Dr Pat, seeing as you guys only have to do the 2 weeks liquid etc as opposed to the 4 that Dr Wilk suggests.

    Hello Tasmanians!

Hi girls, Great to have some more Tassie people to talk to! Shelley 11 kgs is fantastic, well done! Did you lose much of that during the liquid stage? I am starting to get really nervous Claire, but I just have to keep reminding myself that it will all be worth it! Tuffy, I am hovering around the 100 kg mark so ideally I would love to get to about late 50's / early 60's. One of my goals is to be a size 12 though, I haven't been a size 12 since I was a teenager, so I would love to get there. In saying all of that though, even a 20 kilo loss would make a huge difference to my health and my confidence! I noticed in one of the other threads you were talking about your shop, do you mind if I ask what it is?
  3. I am being banded on Tuesday, and I am pretty sure I have to do liquid for 4 weeks then 4 weeks of puree transitioning into solids. I have been thinking how lucky the 2 weekers are

    Hello Tasmanians!

That is fantastic news Tuffy! I am so glad he can get you in so fast. When do you think you will look at getting it done? It sounds like he makes his patients feel very comfortable, which is great. That is so funny that you snorted laughing I guess the recovery time completely depends on the individual, and I assume that they give general timelines to cover themselves more than anything. Its like people I know who have had a c-section, they are told not to do lifting or even driving for 6 weeks, but they all do and they are all fine. My partner has a few days off (because of show day) so he is actually going to take Molly (our little girl) up to his parents farm for a few days so I can have complete rest, after that my mum is on holidays, so I will have plenty of support if its needed. Dr Wilkinson didn't mention anything about the Optifast, but I have seen on here nearly everyone is doing it, do you think it has something to do with starting weight? Your exactly right, this time next year we won't know ourselves! And on a completely superficial note we will be wearing gorgeous summer clothes lol courts x

    Hello Tasmanians!

Not long now till your appt!! Its great that your excited, I hope he can get the surgery booked quickly for you! My nerves are starting to kick in now, my op's next tuesday and I am starting to stress about the recovery time. I have read a few posts on here that your not meant to do any lifting for about 2 weeks....thats impossible with my little girl, she is going through such a clingy phase and wants to be picked up and cuddled constantly, so I am struggling with the concept of not being able to do that. Please let me know how you go with Tony, I will have my fingers crossed that it all happens quickly for you courts x

  8. Hi everyone, I am being banded on the 18th of this month (just over a week to go yay!!) I know my Dr will probably inform me after the op, but I was just wondering how long you have to be on the liquid stage and how long for mushies? I have read and heard so many differing timeframes, so is it dependent on the Dr you see or how well your body responds to the band?? Any info would be awesome Thanks Courts

    First Surgeon Appointment

My head certainly was spinning! Basically I walked in and he asked a few questions about family history of obesity etc and whether I always had a weight problem - the answer being yes lol. After that he asked if I had any questions and then he pretty much said "right I will see you in the hospital"and that was that. The rest was organised by the nurse in his rooms. Its funny that you say you've been practising, we went to the casino for lunch today - my last big pig out meal , and I was sitting there trying to eat tiny mouthfuls and wait 30 - 60 secs between each one before having the next one. It was alot harder than I imagined it would be!! I have had one of my friends say that a lap band was "the easy way out"and I got on the defensive (she is a size 10 at a push so has no idea about weight issues) and my response was: 1 - surgery is not easy 2 - recovery is not easy and 3 - watching everything I eat for the rest of my life is not easy. We haven't talked about it again lol My little girl is my first, she will be 18 months old this month and is one of my main motivators for doing this, I want to be around forever! I am only working 2 days a week so its a really nice balance between me time and mummy time lol. Let me know how you go on Thursday!! I will have my fingers crossed that you get a quick surgery date xx

    First Surgeon Appointment

Hey Tuffy It is great to find another Hobartian going through it at around the same time, I am sure there are more Tasmanians on here so a new thread in the Tassie section would be a great idea! Dr Wilkinson didn't really suggest a specific downtime after the op (his consultation was ridiculously fast - in and out in 5 or 6 mins. I had done the info session he runs though), everything I have read suggests a week or so though. I am working part time after returning from maternity leave, so I would probably only actually miss 2 or 3 work days lol I am really just going to see how I feel, I guess after the op he will let me know. I haven't told many people at all, my partner obviously, my family and a few close friends. I am exactly the same with my partners family...they are all quite big and I just don't want to start any drama. I have decided that if, once I start losing weight, people ask how I have done it I will tell them, but if they don't ask I won't broadcast it around lol I bet you can't wait for your appointment Thursday Courts x

    First Surgeon Appointment

Hey Tuffy, your views of Dr Wilkinson are exactly right, his bedside manner leaves alot to be desired, but I know a few of his former patients and they said his abilities as a surgeon far out way his manner, so I am happy to put up with it lol. I have heard great things about Dr Patiniotis too!! He has referred me for blood tests the day before surgery...there is alot to do that day....pre-op anesthetic consult, pathology tests and pre-admission session at the hospital. I just can't wait to get this journey underway and get on the road to a better me, as daunting as it all is

    First Surgeon Appointment

Hi Tuffy, I am in Hobart too, who are you seeing? I had my first appointment with Dr Wilkinson on Monday and I am all booked in for op on 18th of this month. I can't believe how fast it is all happening, but i am so glad that once I made the decision I haven't had to wait ages for it to happen. Good luck with it all Cheers

    October Bandits 2011

Thankyou so much for your posts Julz and Hulya, I am getting quite nervous about the procedure itself, but you have definitely put my mind at ease. I hope it is going well for all those who have been banded and those waiting...like me

    October Bandits 2011

Hi everyone, I am getting my band on the 18th of October. I only had my initial consult with Dr today so I am shocked at how fast it is all happening. Very excited about the prospect of being healthy and happy again, and being a better mum to my 17 month old little girl (she has so much energy and its hard for me to keep up lol). But at the same time I am so scared!! Reading through the posts on here though has certainly made me feel better, knowing there is somewhere to vent to people who can understand! All the best to all the Octoberites....and others Courtney
