    Did you tell people?

I have my first consultation today to get information and determine my eligibility for lap banding. I really want this but I'm hesitant to tell anyone about it, because I simply dont want their opinions. My partner is the only one who knows so far and hes been so supportive. Unfortunately, i live with my partners parents, so unless they are away when i go in to have my surgery, they're going to know. Plus my partner works away two out of three weeks, and I'll need someone to look after my son. I accept I'll have to tell them eventually, but was wondering who else did you tell?

    Healthy Chocolate Fix

Hi Everybody, I just thought I would share a healthy recipe for those who love a good chocolate fix. I saw this on Dr. Oz, and thought it was a fantastic idea, because I LOVE chocolate mousse. The recipe isnt completely guilt free, but it's a hell of a lot healthier than your regular chocolate mousse. The avacado gives it the creaminess and good fats. I haven't tried it yet, but I plan to. I'd love to hear if anybody has heard of it before, tried it and what they thought of it. It sounds weird, but is supposed to tste just as good, if not better than regular mousse. CHOCOLATE AVOCADO MOUSSE Ingredients Serves 6 12 oz. good quality bittersweet chocolate, chopped 2 tsp ground cinnamon 1 tsp chili powder 1 large, ripe avocado, pitted and peeled 3/4 cup light brown sugar 6 egg whites Directions Melt the chocolate with the cinnamon and chili powder in a double boiler over hot water and set aside. Purée the avocado and brown sugar in a food processor until smooth. With the machine running, pour in the chocolate mixture. Using a stand mixer or whisk, beat the egg whites until they form soft peaks. Fold the chocolate mixture into the egg whites. Pour the mousse into 6 small serving bowls or wineglasses and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or covered overnight.

    First Consultation

So I had my first consultation today. It wasnt at all like I expected. There was no judgemental/biased GP waiting to tell me that lap banding was a last resort and I should really attempt other ways to lose weight first. He didnt make any negative comments about my weight or BMI, in fact he almost forgot to weigh me at all! I barely had to say anything, he said it all for me and made me feel very comfortable that its not something to be ashamed of. I just have the info pack and questionaire to fill in and another appointment in 2 weeks! Can't wait! Even happy with the cost of the procedure, I admit I thought it was going to be a LOT more. He told me the process would take 6-8 weeks to get in for surgery. Happy with that! Just hoping that my surgery will fall on a week when my fiance is home from work to look after me and my son. Fingers crossed. Hope the next 2 weeks go quickly. I just can't wait to get started. Height:156cm Starting Weight: 106kg Dr Goal Weight: 69kg My Goal Weight: 65kg Current BMI: 44

The $2800 is a one off payment that covers the surgery and all apointments/fills/pre surgery optifast supply. Only thing I have to pay extra in the dietician fees.

    How Tastes change

Hi! Just a comment on your chocolate obsession. I just posted a recipe for healthy chocolate mousse made with avocados instead of cream. Its supposed to taste just as good as regular mousse, although I admit, I havent tried it yet Not 100% guilt free, but much healthier option.

    Healthy Chocolate Fix

Yeah, this food has no nutritional value really, its more just a healthier alternative. As far as I know, they used that 70-80% cocoa dark chocolate. The good stuff! I personally dont really like eating that but it would be good to use for this as it's far healthier. Now that my partner is working away, maybe I can try this recipe, although the amounts serve 6 and I dont want to make that much. I dont think you could freeze it either because of the avacado

    Made the Decision

My name is Leanne and I'm a 21 year old (new) mother of a 6 month old baby boy. I've struggled with my weight my whole life, and hadn't been under 100kg for at least 3-4 years. I met my fiance about 3 years ago and started immediately on a weight loss regime, determined to look good for him and feel more confident about myself. It worked! For a while... I'd lost about 10kg going to Healthy Inspirations, exercising in their gym and having diet consultations. Then around Christmas 2010, I fell pregnant. That combined with all the yummy treats of Christmas, there went all my hard work. I stopped going to the gym for fear of over-doing it, I gave into pregnancy cravings and put all the weight back on. After the birth of my son six months ago, I had Implanon inserted into my arm, to avoid any more "lovely, surprise" pregnancies. Six months later, I am heavier than I was when I was 9 months pregnant. It's a horrible feeling to get on the scale and see that. I've thought about Lap Band surgery in the past, but thought it was too far out of my reach financially, not to mention I was embarrassed and didnt think I was 'there yet'. I think when you become a mum, you spend so much time taking care of everyone else, that you forget to look after yourself, and now that I'm over that 100kg mark yet again, I need to take action now and prevent it from becoming something I put off whilst I raise my son. So this weekend, I made the decision to enquire about it and spoke to my partner (hesitantly), hoping for his support. He was fantastic, told me he loved me how I was but he could see that this is something I needed to do for myself, for our relationship, and for our son. So, tomorrow I begin my phone calls to get an appointment at an Obesity Clinic nearby. Wish me luck!

    Made the Decision

Yes i admit i am a bit of a bored eater, but i do usually eat reasonably healthy. My biggest problem is portion control cuz as children my parents always served larger than necessary portions. Im ready to change my eating habits, ive done it in the past, but since moving in with my partners family ive fallen in, and picked up all their bad eating habits. If the band goes in, at least i'll have a medical reason to prepare my own food, without feeling rude or ungrateful.

I cant wait to go into a non plus size shop or section and know i'll be able to find something that will fit me. I would be happy to get down to a 14 (currently 18-20), but a 10-12 would be great

    Tone in messages

I know what you mean. I am always very honest and voice my beliefs, but it is never in a nasty tone and i do worry that sometimes what i type may be taken the wrong way.

    stupid bullys

I try not to look at my weight as a surprise. I have never been teased severely because of my weight because i dont let them get to me. In the past, at school, if somebody ever said i was fat, i just said "yeah? How observant you are?". I dont get deeply insulted because it is a fact. I AM obese, i know that. And if I can see it in the mirror, i expect other people to notice. Dont get me wrong, its not nice, or polite to point it out to somebody but it is reality. But you can be proud of yourself that you've made the choice to change for the better. And as somebody said, you can lose weight, but its a lot harder for people to change their nasty personality flaws

    waiting waiting waiting...

    frustrated by unsupportive people

I admit that whilst my mother doesnt intentionally say things to bring me down, she is the first the point of the risk/downside of something I want to do. She notices the negative first, and whilst I know that she just worries and wants me to be prepared for the world, I don't think some people realise that sometimes you just need to be supported and encouraged, not lectured about everything that COULD go wrong. If you spend your life thinking about what could go wrong, you might miss out on the opportunity for something to be right. and Most of the time it's because they've tried things, and failed.

    I WANT IT NOW !!

Wow, thats actually a good idea Quietband, I hadn't even thought about using a personal loan to cover the cost. If I had, I would have done it years ago! Unfortunately my partner and I are in enough debt as it is, so it's not an option for us. I have my first consultation tomorrow and I feel like you, I just can't wait to get started. I'd read the other blogs and stories and I just cant wait for the post-op results! I want to pick out a goal outfit, buy some excercise equipment and stock the pantry with soups and shakes.

    Optislim - what flavours?

When I tried losing weight with shakes, I was using the Fat Blaster ones. I found that if you pick sweet flavours like banana and strawberry, you get sick of them very quickly. Once I'm banded, or dieting pre-band, I'll have to keep several flavours on hand at once to mix them up. I love coffee flavoured anything. I like banana, but got sick of the sweetness very quickly.

    Made the Decision

I've made the appointment for tomorrow, for my first consultation. I understand that it's just for information and to check my eligibility and then I go from there. I'm kind of terrified that the doctor will tell me I don't need it, or try to talk me out of it and into trying another weight loss option (one that ive tried in the past and already failed).

Missing: Motivation&Focus - If found, please return to....

Best thing to do is find a gym buddy, somebody that is really serious about going. Then you have the motivation to go, and hopefully it will be more fun with a friend there. As for the healthy eating, I personally find it's helpful to put up little signs on the fridge/cupboards...like positive quotes, or even just a list on the fridge of what you should/could be eating. Visual aids help I think
