    Can't keep fluids down

I can keep water down. Sometimes. Seems very inconsistent. No idea what's going on but very frustrated! No hot cross bunnies for me!

    Can't keep fluids down

Hi Folks. I had my band done 12 months ago and I'm pretty close to goal. Great! However... Have been having trouble since Christmas. I had the band as tight as possible so I wouldn't over eat. Had a bit let out 6 weeks ago as I was having to purge all the time. Still struggling. Today I'm trying to drink a bit if coke but it keeps regurgitating. It's Easter Sunday and I'm holidaying in Perth - I live in Hobart. Have an appointment this Wednesday with my surgeon. Is that early enough?! Really struggling here! Some times I can get a bit if food in but have constant reflux, most of the food blocks and I feel slightly queasy most of the time. Any advice welcomed! Cheers. Simone

    Hello Tasmanians!

Hi Everyone, I am now 12 months banded and close to goal weight but REALLY struggling with blockages. I read somewhere there is a facebook group for Tassie Bandits. Can someone tell me how to find it?! I am Simone Yemm on facebook. Would love some support! Cheers. Simone

    Cost

Oh - and follow up appointments (once a month I guess?) with the surgeon cost me $117.60 but thankfully I get 100% back on medicare :-) Cheers. Simone

    Cost

Also, I was very surprised the day I checked out of hospital that the surgeon's office asked me to pay the whole $2500 fee up front, or to make a payment plan for $3000 over six (3?) months. I wish I'd known in advance that I would have to pay it on that day! I did scrounge the money together but I had expected to receive an account in the mail - not pay the bill while still feeling foggy from anaesthetic! The anaethetist's bill came in the mail. Hospital was sorted when I booked in. Cheers. Simone

    Cost

My out of pocket expenses were about $2300. I have corporate level 2 cover with BUPA. I'm in Hobart - my surgeon charged $2500 of which I got back about $800 from medicare and private health. My anaethetist fees were largely covered by medicare and BUPA. About $300 out-of-pocket I think. I had a $250 excess and no other out-of-pocket costs for the hospital. I haven't seen any other specialists. Hope that helps! Cheers. Simone

    Yummy breakfast

I saw this and tried it. Delicious! I've expanded it a bit though. Now I put one banana, a few spoons of Jalna Greek yoghurt, and a decent splash of prune juice in the blender. Give it a good whizz and then drink it. It is so delicious! And as someone who has suffered chronic constipation over the past 13 years, I can also add I'm very impressed with the results! Thank you so much :-) Cheers, Simone

    Hi from Hobart

JemJem, Tony is very charismatic :-) You're on the forums so I guess that means you're already doing lots of research and lots of thinking. Good luck with your appointment! Cheers. Simone

    How soon to eat post-op

Thank you for all the suggestions and support! I promise not to have metamucil again - I didn't realise it was a no-no. Woke up feeling very nauseous so I've emailed my surgeon to see if he thinks that's okay. I read somewhere about a good liquid brekkie consisting of yoghurt and prune juice - thought I might try that instead of the metamucil. I am so looking forward to not feeling sick!! Cheers. Simone
  13. I had my banding on Monday - today is Wednesday. At the moment I'm hardly eating anything at all. Is that ok? Today I've had a glass of water with 2 teaspoons Metamucil, two cups of herbal tea, several glasses of water, and a small mug of pureed vegetable soup. I'm still very uncomfortable with post-op bloating and reflux. I really don't want to eat any more right now, but it seems like starvation diet! Is this normal? How soon after the surgery did everyone else start eating their liquid diet? Cheers, Simone

    March Bandits

I think I'm a March bandit... I had my surgery yesterday. Very uncomfortable with post-op bloating but not much pain. Feeling very apprehensive about the future. A lot of mental shifting regarding food. But I am committed and determined!! Cheers. Simone

    Hi from Hobart

Thanks! I had it done by Tony at the Hobart private. It's been a whirlwind. I saw him last Thursday for my first meeting and was booked in for Monday. No time to think! Good luck with your surgery :-) I hear there are over-the-counter de-gas types of meds. Are they any good? Should I get some?! Cheers. Simone
