Hello Everybody!!!! Wishing you all a good week for those of you who returned to work today- i hope you all coped and didnt push yourselves too hard! Congratulations on the great weight loss that is happening all round; Smiley Deb your new profile pic is great evidence of your successful weight loss. CSM you poor thing i have not had a PB moment yet (really dont want one) what were you trying to eat? Welcome Sarahbelle! I had my surgery on a Wednesday and was back at work on Monday- the first few days i back i was very cautious and very aware of how i was moving around. I work in an office but reaching high shelves and lifting some things took a little longer than usual but i was okay. i think i started driving on the Sunday but wasnt too keen before hand to be going anywhere. I had shoulder tip pain for 48 hours. (hope this all helps you- but everyone is different, if possible i would recommend you take two weeks off just in case you need it) For those of you who struggled this week- It's okay the positive is that you have made a life changing decision and as 'old fatties' we all became food critics and so it is really hard for our minds and bodies to get used to all these phases that do not include our favourite foods or the foods we crave when we are sad, depressed, lonely (even if we are surrounded by ppl) or simply just lost. The difference these days is that we acknowledge that our food choice was wrong and that we feel guilty about the small things........ Just think back to a couple of months ago...... There is an amazing difference in your daily diet from two months ago to today. We cannot guarantee that we will be happy with ourselves and our food intake every day but we should make sure that we take the time to look ourselves in the mirror EVERYDAY to acknowledge and appreciate the positive changes that we have made and will continue to make for the rest of our lives. Good luck this week Boys and Girls.....If you werent completely happy with what you ate over the weekend, make it a fresh week with a fresh start xx

Hey Guys!!!! Jab your positive attitude is definately inspirational! I have been having six crackers with my lunch and am started to feel bad and worry that i am not chewing them enough. I had a post op appointment with the clinic today and she said crackers are fine because they dissolve well enough if we chew chew chew. I chew as much as possible 90% of the time, but i am a self confessed food inhaler and sometimes (not often) i forget and swallow food a little prematurely. I haven't had any problems or pb moments but i worry about the damage that i could be doing to my stomach pouch and esophagus, then the food devil in me says 'you used to inhale food and never chew as much as you do now, isnt the damage already done?' I had researched the band for two years prior to getting it done and have watched many youtube clips on banded buddies and their progress........but i feel a little confused, lost even. Maybe this is the emotional rollercoaster of the band but today for the first time i thought ' have i done the right thing?' The doctor told me today to only eat when i am hungry- if i did that i wouldnt be eating much at all, therefore my body would start storing fat again and go into starvation mode right? Arggghhhh im stressed out after meeting with her today, i thought i was doing a good job. All i can say is thank goodness i found this forum and this group of great and supportive people, because without you (yes you) i would be really depressed right now! My outta pocket expense was $4250 including my PH excess plus i had to pay for blood tests, pre op appointment. I also was told that there was no additional fees but was then told that the anesthetist had started charging within the last few weeks so im waiting for that bill in the mail. Last week i received an invoice for the barium swallow but medicare take care of that as far as i know. You can claim some of this back at tax time too.......

Good Morning everyone! Glad so many people are using myfitnesspal its such a handy tool to make sure you are getting enough fuel for your new body! My username is kasmopolitan and everyone is welcome to add me. Congratulations marchpig! Thats fantastic news. Poppy- Definately sip some water and try to move around as much as possible without over doing it.......this should help with the nausea, if its bad i would certainly organise some anti nausea medication because you dont want to take any risks when it comes to vomitting. Welcome Parani hope you felt the warm welcome from everyone and are now comfortable to share everything. So many comments added since my last visit, i cant remember everything- hope everyone is doing well. Enjoy your long weekend everyone and i hope it isnt a challenge for anyone catching up with family and friends Be strong and remember what made you commit to your band in the beginning.

CsM i am so happy you got everything sorted out! Just a few more hours and all of our September members will be banded Congratulations Maxie on your weight loss- 20% is wonderful!!!!!! Welcome Siobhain- I was also banded on 19th September and you are in the right place, you couldn't find a more friendly or supportive group of people, feel free to share, ask or tell us about anything. Phairy, bananaberry, Lisa, Cark, Beck and Poppy- Its good to hear you have all pulled through and are doing okay ( hope i didn't miss anyone) Marchpig- Are you eating anything other than baby food? Are you just eating one pouch at a time? How do you find them? I am having a bit of a bad day today (haha im like a bloody rollercoaster) I am feeling bloated and disgusting and to be honest i am sick of shakes, soups and smoothies.........today marks one day post op and i have been advised to move onto mushies which is great but being back at work is making things alot more difficult. i took a weetbix to work for breakfast this morning but then got a little stuck at lunch (the soup of the day wasn't to my liking) so i opted for ceaser salad without bacon and although i dont usually drink soft drinks i decided to have a coke zero at lunch to help push down the food- the entire time i was eating i was in total panic thinking something is going to get stuck, my stomach pouch is going to stretch or prolapse. I chewed everything really well and didnt eat much of it but i just know that my poor little stomach is still recovering and i am not supporting its healing process. For dinner i had some extra sloppy tuna mornay which i read about yesterday in a post, that was really good but i ate it a little too quickly and i felt a little tightness afterwards. Deep down i know this is a life changing journey and it will be a marathon but the work limitations are proving to be difficult. I guess they also prove how i got to be this big to begin with, i work in hospitality and i do not get a meal break, i used to inhale my food whenever i got the chance. The way i eat has changed, the amount, the selection, the time it takes but i think i need some inspiration for some mushie foods that i can take to work with me other than weetbix and shakes...... Wow- Sorry, rant over!

Thanks TeeBee. CSM- Dont freak out i am with medibank too, what kind of cover do you have? What does it say on the back of your medibank card? How long have you been insured? When you enquired back in April did they send you any follow up correspondence via email that you could access whilst you wait to speak with someone? In any case i am sure everything will work out. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Good evening everyone! Congratulations phairy, shlleybear, lisa and Nic- i hope you are all recovering well from todays ops. Good luck to luckybee and Poppy for tomorrow. I cannot believe we are nearly at the end of our list. Just my dr's advise on the liquid mushy phase- one week post op on liquids followed by two weeks on mushy phase meaning anything that could fit up a straw. My streri stips are starting to come away from my belly and the wounds (as far as i can see) look really good. Today was a hard day at work ( i work in hospitality too) i ordered soup for my lunch and it was served with warm crusty sourdough, i feared it from the moment i remembered that it was going to be served on my plate. I enjoyed the pumpkin soup but i couldn't resist the sourdough so i took a bite of the crunchy crust, chewed it like crazy and then threw the rest in the bin straight away so it would stop any further temptation/self sabotage. On a positive note i sat with my boss today and was notified that i was being promoted-effective immediately............Busy schedule and new role gives me a new excuse for the weight loss everyone is about to witness. Wishing you all well wishes and hope everyone is recovering well. Has anyone started back on solids yet?

Sorry to repost but i did forget to mention that although hey detached me from the machines after urinating, they did come back every hour on the hour to test blood pressure and check my heart rate. Kas x

Sorry to freak you out the Lori, the 'machines' i was refering to were the heart monitor and blood pressure machines. As Jeni said they will also have you on an IV drip and possibly oxygen too. I also would have been mortified if they had brought me in a bed pan- its strange enough on a normal day but whilst you are still a little groggy , No thank you. Luckily it took me a little while to feel the need to visit the bathroom and i really didnt want to be supervised whilst i did so for the first time post op so i simply took my own sweet time and made it the bathroom alone. I think it also depends on how you feel, i wouldnt recommend everyone do this as it could be a little dangerous depending on your situation.

I am a lucky bitch! Congratulations on the 2kgs which i am sure as crept up since your last post. is your wife on liquids or mushies now? What have you learnt from her experience already? My greatest advise for everyone is to get up and walk around as soon as possible after surgery- Don't wait for nurses to encourage you, just take your time and take it upon yourself because it is so beneficial in getting rid of all the gas in your body from the surgery and the more you move around, the less shoulder pain you will have. I walked laps of the ward and circles around my room during the night - Honestly it is sooooo boring but it VERY beneficial. As soon as you urinate let the nurse know as they will most likely not detach you from your machine until you do. Also if you get the option i would opt for a private room over a shared room as it will give you privacy to get up and walk around and make your way to the bathroom without someone else being in the room. October is just around the corner, hope you are all excited!!!!! Kas x

Good luck for your suregry tomorrow cark, beck, bananaberry and nowsthetime!!!!!! Phairy- Hope you are feeling better and up for the challenge come Tuesday morning! Jeni- i love that your dietician has given you a strict regime to follow but i would struggle to fit all of that in. since Tuesday i have only been able to take in a very small amount of mls. (4 teaspoons of diet jelly, 1 tablespoon of choc mousse, 2 protein shakes, 1 cup of clear chicken soup and last night i was naughty because i was at a suprise party and i ate 3-5 pieces of popcorn- i am a secret bandit to some extent and have only told close family and friends so last night was a bit awkward) I am back at work tomorrow so hopefully i will be able to take in more mls with the more energy i am using up throughout the day. Mai- So glad to hear the scales are making you happy again! Csm82- I am not taking any protein powder at the moment but i am drinking protein shakes still- i had some left over optifast and some celebrity slim from a while ago so i am trying to consume those to keep up on as many nutrients as possible. KTK- I had similar emotions about food last night, i knew going to a party would be a test but it was fine- the truth was i wasnt hungry i simply was struggling with the visual of the buffet table of party food and the intoxicating smells that filled the night air as dinner was cooking. i keep saying i dont miss the food but i miss the taste and the texture of food too. i have some goats cheese in the fridge and each time i look at it i think 'i am 'allowed' to eat you soon but i no longer know what i will eat you with' lol its so strange. Elband- You are doing an amazing job on your weight loss- keep it up! Smiley deb and KJay- hope your sunday is treating you well (im stalking you and know you are both online ) To everyone else- Enjoy whats left of your weekend, hope you are all taking it easy and enjoying the sunshine Has anyone started rubbing anything on their wounds for scar therapy yet? Not sure when to start this, this questions is a little premature as my steri strips are still on but i thought it would be good to find out what everyone else did

Phairy, i was also feeling a bit of a cold/flu during my optifast stages, i simply added raw garlic into my soups and i was better by Wednesday morning, thank goodness! Give Smiley Deb's tea a go it sounds like it will fight and kill all of the bacteria in the body and fast track you to a speedy recovery. Smiley deb i also liked your disposable knicker comment- much to my suprise when i woke up in recovery i found that my disposable knickers were nowhere to be found lol- Stripped off me in my sleep!!!!! Sexy bandit lol
