G'day peeps... I just came across this forum, and am ticked pink that it exists. It's always good to get local/domestic input as opposed to international from time to time. So here goes... My lap-band surgery date is in October; a hell of a long time away. Had no cash on hand to perform the surgery ASAP since I on Newstart Allowance, so had to take the Private Insurance approach, which is sending me broke. Sounds like a double edged sword... heh... Trying to slow down on food intake, or even cutting out bad foods is a challenge I am losing every day. My weight was increasing, even after seeing the Professor @ Williamstown and attending the 3 appointments that were required. So, after cracking the s**** at myself, I went and bought a 12 pack of Optifast Shake Mixture. Today is day 4. I have had the runs since Day 1. The first day fluids and solids were mixed. The solids gradually declined and the fluids gradually increased. Today's output was just fluid. In regards to size, most of the feedback I have felt is in my legs and lower abdomen. Being 170-175kg at signup, probably higher prior to 4 days ago... not sure whether it is fat or excess fluid buildup that is being removed. I asked the Dietitian that works with Professor Nottle, and she said that I can be on the full Optifast Program for up to 6 months, I seriously doubt I will be to reach that duration, especially if Centrelink is on my back to work (I am a Carer for my 76yo widowed Mum, but according to the Government, she doesn't need one... pffft). I'm not sure what to do... try and tough it out without Optifast, force myself to consume vegetables instead of take-away/junk food... might even be forced off Health Insurance because I can't buy anything anymore (most of the time). Sell car... who knows, there goes job prospects. So yeah, that's my intro... thanks for reading and thanks for this forum!

It has suddenly dawned on me that after 18+ months on this journey that I just simply do not like most of the foods I used to eat and I've discovered a whole new world of wholesome, healthy and DELICIOUS foods that I never knew existed. Some of my new found faves (OK, obsessions) include: Home made hommous... eaten by the tea spoon Sweet potato... any way I can have this is fine with me... baked, grilled, pan fried. I have it with EVERYTHING, even my salads haha. Protein shakes/home made protein bars/balls/pancakes Coffee. I always thought I liked coffee but in reality I was masking the taste by having Mocha or a cap with lots of sugar. I now have a skim flat white, no sugar and OH MY... the coffee taste What are some of the awesome healthy foods you've discovered since your health/WLS journey? I am looking to expand my horizons even further! Joujou

I'm worried we could be setting ourselves up for OTHER problems?
jen16 posted a topic in Frequently Asked Questions
Hi everyone, I wonder if anyone else has had similar thoughts but... I am scared that because we are all concentrating on what we eat, and its timing and how much we eat etc that we could be setting our selves up for eating problems? I don't know if its just because I'm a new bandit or if people who have been banded for much longer still have this thought but this I guess is how it all starts? Our surgeons give us a goal weight, and we have our own personal goal weight which often seems to be about 5kg's lower... Has anyone else thought about this? Jen xx -
Hi guys and girls... I just wanted to share.... Im used to looking at packaging for nutritional information but for the first time in ages I googled it and I came across this nutritional website - http://nutritiondata.self.com/ which is one I havnt seen before. As its Australian, supported by Swisse and the Chemist Warehouse - I thought I might let you guys know about it if you hadnt already found it by your intelligent self . I really like the way the data is shown and if your still playing around with your diet like trying to decrease your carbs and increase your protein like myself or simply want to switch it up. It make's it easy for you to see that nutrition info in a variety of ways, including the sometimes "more complex than needed" little box of infomation thats on all our food packaging, and a great way to get nutritional infomation on fresh food. Anyways, I hope you find it useful like I have. Jen Xx Here's a snapshot of it with Kiwi fruit!

Hi All, I was banded on 21/1/13 so I am still in my liquids stage (1 week to go before mushies) and I am looking for suggestions for any recipe books that are written with lapband patients in mind. I am looking for food that both my wife and I can eat, is easy to prepare, also options that allows food to be frozen for later. Thanks, Andrew

Hey All, Quick question....I have found after my latest fill I am not able to eat food until lunch time (ish) heading towards afternoon. I do not feel hungry either but if i do try and eat in the morning my body just rejects it. I have never been a breakfast person anyway but its strange now my band will just bring it up. I can eat well after 5pm however! Does anyone else find this? Or am I odd? lol.

Is the evil fatty inside me still trying to take over??
JodieW posted a topic in Frequently Asked Questions
I had my band put in 2 days ago now and i'm not sure if the feeling i have in my stomach is hunger pains or gas?? The doc told me that i probably wouldn't be hungry for the first week. I'm not that hungry but i still really want to eat the thought of vegimite toast is killing me.. Is it just the fatty inside me trying to take over my body?? If so how do i put the b**ch to rest? -
So I would love to pull on everyones wealth of excperience and ask what has helped you along the way? Apps/weight loss tracking techniques? Scales? Portion plates? Cook books? Vitamins? Blenders and other utensils? What did you take to hospital? Have you tried something and found it useless? I am excited to hear what has worked and what hasnt. Thank you

He there I would love to make a list of snacks of low calories. I have just recently pulled out my air popcorn maker and rediscovered my old mate. I love crunch! Air popped popcorn 1 cup = 28 cals.
