    Exercise Scientist?

    Hello, I had my surgery 2.5 years ago and started at 100 kilos and am currently down to 64 kilos. I lost 95% of my weight within the first 12 months. I would love to get to 60 kilos but I have been unable to lose anymore weight. My excercise of choice was jogging, which was great, however it has left me with little muscle tone. I wanted to ask if anyone knows a Exercise Physioligist or Exercise Scientist that can give you advice on the best exercise for your body and see if my body shape will allow me to lose any more weight and tone muscle or if surgery to remove excess skin is my only option left? I have tried personal trainers, but they dont know enough about body physiology etc. I read that cardio does not necessarily help some people and that they are better doing weight training to lose weight. I would be keen to discuss with an expert. Do you have any recommendations? Or similiar situation? Thanks

Maintaining Weight Without Losing More , My Dietician's Guidelines Today at Visit I am 3 weeks shy of my 6/12 anniversary and have passed the dieticians goal weight for me and the lower goal weight I set for me (she had agreed that it was realistic and achievable). I have reached a weight at which I don't want to lose any more, with a BMI of 20.68 I saw my dietician today (I have had a total of 7 visits) with the goal for today's visit of getting guidelines on how to maintain my weight where it is and not to lose anymore. I was congratulated on the weight loss that I have achieved, and she recognised that I already eat a healthy diet and am very well read and informed. So, basically the advice she gave me was to concentrate on protein and healthy fats and to increase amounts of nuts, avocado. (She knew I was anti-carbohydrate - hey, that's why I got obese in the first place! in that I didn't want to maintain using strategies such as eating rice...) We also discussed the new Healthy Eating Pyramid and it's move away from refined carbohydrates...and also how I believe that all the previous 'healthy diet guidelines' were detrimental for those on the slippery slope to and with diabetes Type 2. Another concern of mine is since me having an ileus and small bowel obstruction recently following abdominal wall surgery and basically not eating for 2/52 my stomach appears to have...shrunk. My intake in a single sitting appears to be about 1/4 cup food... ie the size of one poached egg. And I don't snack between meals. But I am sure that this situation will remedy itself So I am prepared that I will probably drop another kg or so until my intake improves, and according to my research if my carb intake is still low increasing healthy fats won't actually make me gain weight, in fact I'll keep on losing. I'll ask her what her 'end point' weight for me would be, she was happy for my end point to be what it is now, but wondering if she would say another couple of kgs lighter? She is tiny herself, about my height, but I see her as much smaller.
  3. I'm only a couple of kilos away from my goal weight and I'm wanting to do something special for myself to celebrate but for the life of me I can't think of anything. I'm on a very limited budget so it can't be anything like a tattoo or expensive jewellery. Also, there's no point in making it clothing as I'm a regular serial clothing buyer as it is. What did the rest of you do when you reached goal ? If you haven't reached goal yet, what are your plans ? Give me some ideas. I've worked so so hard to get this far and I don't want reaching my goal weight to just pass as just another day.

    Goal Weight Revision

    So, I've been pondering my goal weight for a while and came to the conclusion that it was unrealistic, and probably unhealthy, so after more pondering, I've changed it. I think I'm in a good head space about it because I thought I'd feel guilty, like I was somehow cheating myself and taking an easier route to my end destination, but I don't. I feel good and in a way a little more empowered because my new goal is realistically achievable, still infinitely healthier than my starting point and completely in line with my surgeons expectations. I'd originally decided on a goal weight of 70kg, (I'm 170cm tall) which would have given me a BMI of 24.2 which is in the upper range of 'normal'. I decided on that goal because that's what I weighed in my early 20's, give or take a kilo or two. My surgeon told me that if I get down to 99kg that she would consider my lap-banding to have been a success and that if I got down to 85kg I would be very happy. She said I shouldn't go under 79kg. Now, I've revised my goal weight to 85kg. I've chosen this new magical number for a few reasons. 1. My surgeon said this would be an ideal weight for me. 2. I was this weight at 25 just prior to getting pregnant with my first child and I remember NOT looking overweight. I'm very lucky in that I can carry a bit of extra weight but not look overweight. 3. My reality is that I will never be able to afford to surgically have my excess skin removed so I need to take that into account as no amount of dieting and exercise will ever get rid of it. From the research I've been doing I'd say I'll have around 15kg of excess skin just hanging around. So that's my original goal of 70kg + my excess skin. Being 85kg will give me a BMI of 29.4 which takes me out of the 'obese' range ... just. But you know what ... a BMI of 29.4 is just a little tad better than a BMI of 58.1 which is what I started with 3.5 years ago. How can I not be happy with that goal ? When I get down to 85kg I will have lost half my body weight. Again ... a decent goal. Who knows ... I might get to 95kg and decide to stay put. I recently had a 6 month post banding blood test done and my blood sugars are good and my cholesterol has dropped to 3.9 which is amazing. Honestly ... if my surgeon tells me there's no further benefit to my health by losing more weight ... I swear ... I will stop and maintain. I've revised my goal weight but I'm really leaving it up to my surgeon. If she revises it ... I'll go with what she recommends. I feel I was a little obsessed with that bright shiny 70kg goal which was a little silly as the reason I've been losing weight is to be healthier. There's far more accurate numbers to measure my health than the ones that come with a 'kg' after them. I'll stick to gauging my success with blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure readings and whether they come at 85kg, 95kg or 100kg won't matter.

    Pain in port area

    Hi, I am new to this site. I hit goal weight earlier this year after a March 2012 banding. My port is really sticking out now and is quite sore sometimes. I also have noticed I am starting to eat more and more often. Luckily I am not putting weight back on (yet) but feel it is only a matter of time until I do. Has anybody else had any experience of this and does anybody have any advice for me?
