I'm sooooo excited to tell you! So Medibank have changed their policies and only cover weight loss surgery on their top cover for about $120 a month. I just joined with PEOPLE CARE who cover gastric banding and plastic/ reconstructive surgery on their MID LEVEL HOSPITAL $500 excess for only $20 a week ($80 a month) for a 25 year old single!! They are also honouring the waiting periods I've served, which for me means peace of mind post banding should anything happen. It also means I'm not paying for anything I don't need!
born2rock85 posted a topic in Gastric SleeveI checked emails to find one from my private health insurer - Medibank. Only to be notified that as of 28th September 2015 weight loss surgery will not be covered on basic cover anymore (The only reason why I even bothered with private health cover). I haven't been signed up for a full year. My question is if I will be switching over to another level of cover does that mean any previous time served will be null and void in regards to my application for weight loss surgery? Obviously soon I will call medibank themselves but just wanting to know other people's expierience in regards to similar situation. Cheers
Hey, I am new to all of this and i am taking out my PHI in a fortnight. I am planning on going with medibank, what have others thought of this PHI? Also, apparently there are doctors that have gap cover which means that you are not out of pocket (only the excess) has anyone gone through this way? I also heard you can access your super in order to pay for out of pocket expenses, has anyone done this and succeeded? thank you and sorry for so many questions. I just want to make sure I have my fact rights!
Hi All, This is my first post although i have been lurking in the background for some time. About 18 months ago, i embarked on the course of if i should go down the path of a lap banding (or in this case, gastric sleeve). About a week ago, i decided to proceed with the operation and now i am booked in for the 26th of November... 2 weeks from now. I am excited yet nervous. I decided that after reading many posts on lap banding, that i wanted something that was permanent and low maintenance and hence why i am going for the gastric sleeve. My doctor is Dr. Justin Greenslade and after my initial consultation and reading reviews, i found that he helped me make an informed decision as well as being understandable. The costs involved so far; Initial consult $150 (approx with $70 back from medicare. It was a while ago, so i think that is correct) Doctor for surgery $3500 Anesthetist $1500 Medibank Hospital gap $250 Optifast $100 I havent put in a claim yet for the fees to medibank and medicare, so i will get a little back from that as well as offset my tax next year. Dr Greenslade has recommended that i see a dietician, although not required and for pre-op, 2 weeks of optifast for breakfast and lunch, with dinner consisting of a small piece of chicken with 2 cups of vegi's. Hospitalisation is generally four days with a two week recovery and not looking forward to the mushy eating plan lol. Exciting road ahead.....
