  1. Hi. I'd like to create this topic as an area where long-term (2 1/2+ years) post-op gastric sleeve folk can come along to to update where they are at, and for support. I am about 3/12 shy of 3 years post sleeve gastrectomy and am seeking others such as me. I found that the first two years, the first in particular, was unicorns farting glitter. Everything was all good, and I found the gastricsleevesupport site good. Unfortunately it closed down a while back. Lately I have been feeling 'out on a limb', without having anyone I can ask questions of, seek similar experiences and relate to. I have a lovely "sleeve-sista" - someone I met who was sleeved 10/7 before me, but she has had problems with severe reflux, no appetite, and losing too much weight. Lots of support goes out to the 'newbies", but us long-termers don't get any. Along with a number of us long-termers continuing to put the effort etc into supporting the newbies, but not getting it back. But, I am now finding it harder and harder to maintain my weight, or to lose. And I admit that the last month has been bad on my behalf. I have been making LCHF sweeties, and instead of eating just one bit, have been eating lots. = heaps of calories. And the scales and my clothes are showing it. I have been extra fatigued after having severe gastroenteritis about 8 weeks ago, and have been diagnosed as being iron-deficient. Now on supplemental iron, and for repeat blood tests. I know that life does go on for folks post sleeve-gastrectomy, as it did for me and people get caught up in their own lives. Some folks 'drop' out due to embarrassment - either they didn't lose much weight to start off with, or they lost it and gained it. So, I would appreciate other long-term sleevers, to get back in touch, and update - the good, bad and the ugly. All the best,

  4. Hi folks. I've just come for a bit of reassurance/advice. I was sleeved on Monday, about 1700 so technically only about 3 1/2 days out. My epigastric area (upper middle abdomen) has felt 'bloated' since the op, and I have had varying levels of nausea ranging from low grade to chucking up Also, even when even having tiny sips (5 ml or less), the fluid would go down, then it would feel as though my stomach was spasming associated with increased discomfort and then would eased and I could hear the fluid trickling down/gurgle sound, and often followed by a burp. I had a blissful afternoon yesterday when these symptoms had gone and I managed to get in quite a lot of fluids with no side effects - to the stage that I thought that I was overdoing the amount (250 ml in an hour). I noted after that according to my notes from Diet By D'Zyne that maximum volume of fluids should not exceed 1/2 cup. I was actually concerned that I wasn't having any 'restriction' Over the afternoon I had two cups of chicken stock and a 500 ml can of chilled coconut water (no added sugar) - yummy! And I was a little hungry... I am passing very loose bowel motions (TMI I know). I haven't slept well since the op due to the 'bloated' feeling and with incipient low grade nausea. This am I got up early due to the 'bloated' feeling and with incipient low grade nausea at 0425 and did some gentle tidying around the house, I made a decaf coffee and had a couple of sips then it would feel as though my stomach was spasming associated with increased discomfort and then would eased and I could hear the fluid trickling down, followed by a burp. After a while my nausea increased and I had a small vomit at about 0530. Bugger the tidying up, I went back to bed! It's now just after 9am and I am attempting some warm water. I still have the 'bloated' epigastric feeling and the fluid going down still sets off a 'spasm', this is associated with pain radiating through to my back. I am guessing that this sensation is what sleeved people have when they have too much, but surely 5 ml H2O shouldn't cause it? Is it just due to everything still being swollen? And that the reason that yesterday afternoon was so good was that by me being up for so long the swelling (no longer a dependent part) had gone down? I haven't had any opiods, just liquid paracetamol about 3 doses/day mainly for my usual ME/CFS low grade temps/malaise, but also for stomach discomfort. I have just sent (emailed a copy of this to my surgeon). Looking forward to hearing back from you experienced sleevers! Thank you!
  5. I made this soup last night because my family were having Felafels and the spices and smells were getting to me. My post op soups so far have been as bland as all get out. I was a little worried it would be too thick but- hooray- it went through the straw! Moroccan lentil soup. (makes enough for at least three days). Use about half a cup to three quarters of a cup of red lentils, rinsed. Half packet Master Foods Moroccan Lamb Shanks slow cooker mix (important: NOT THE SPICE BLEND, this is more like a paste) 2 cups water About 1/4 cup finely grated tasty cheese (mmm: cheeeeese) (I used Elbo- style cheese: like a matured cheddar)(I used a microplane grater, but any 'parmesan' size grater will do) Hummus dip to taste (there was about a soup spoonful left in the packet after my family had finished with it). Boil water in a small saucepan. Add lentils and reduce heat to a simmer. Simmer (covered) for about 20 minutes. The lentils should be nice and mushy. Simmer uncovered for about another10 minutes, being careful not to let it dry out and burn on the bottom (just add more water). Add in about half the packet of lamb shank mix and stir. Add in the cheese and mix to melt it in. Throw in the left over hummus dip to taste. Stir until well-combined. Hit it with the stick mixer until it is liquid (add extra water if you need to) enough to get through a straw. Yummy yummy yummy. And healthy!
