Optifast

Recommended Posts

Hi I have started the optifast diet for the 2 weeks before my operation, I already have headache and am starving....

Is it true that you can only have 1/2cup veg per day and nothing else besides optifast? I dont think i will be able to do this for 2 1/2 weeks.

What will i do, any advise would be appreciated

thankyou

maria

Hi Maria!

I was allowed a cup of fruit with breakfast and a cup of allowed veggies at lunch and tea, maybe speak to your dietitian :)

good luck! when are you being banded?

Hi Maria

I got the headache day 2 but it only lasted the day. Make sure you drink plenty of water.

I am allowed 2 serves of allowed veggies per day also but no fruit from viewing the posts on the forum, I've made the leek and cauliflower soup off the website here and I'm enjoying that with the cooler weather.

There are many variations depending which specialist you are under, I'd suggest you give them a call and discuss it with them as soon as you can, good luck

Minnie

Hi Coffee61,

Could I suggest you have a look at the information on the OClinic website.

They have put up some guides that cover the various stages, pre op Optifast, 1st week liquids, 2nd -3rd week etc.

I will come clean and say that Oclinic is my clinic but I have found these guides invaluable especially when my wife could use them as a cross reference to what she should be watching out for as we progressed.

They say 2 cups of veggies selected from the approved list can be added each day.

My experience was 2-3 days of feeling very ordinary followed by 2 weeks of radical weight loss. I believe they call it Ketosis.

Good luck with the preop stuff and heres hoping you have a great time as a bandit.

Regards,

Martin.

Hi Maria

I posted this before but thought you might find it helpful

I had to do the VLCD for three weeks prior to surgery. I need variety & knew that three shakes a day wasn't going to work for me so...

B: Optifast shake made with water

L: Stir fried veges from allowed list with a splash of soy or worcestershire sauce or lightly cooked broccoli or courgettes/mushrooms/tomatoes dry stir fried together. I followed this with a Optifast bar.

D: Optifast Vegetable Soup, made with low sodium chicken or beef stock to add more flavour, veggies from the allowed list. I followed this with diet jelly

Oh & lots & lots of water. I love soda water so that was easy - I missed the vino though.

I often cooked double the vegetables and took 1/2 to work for lunch.

This worked for me

Good luck!
