Non Scale Victories (NSVs)

Recommended Posts

Have been a bit down about the slow weight loss...

but looking at my major measurements, I've definitely made progress:

                   16/5/14    16/8/14

Bust:           118.5          108

Waist:          110             92

Hips:            124            109

(R.) thigh:    64.5           58.5

(L) thigh:       65             58.5

Progress?

I'd say you have  S M A S H E D   I T ! !

I was helping my dad move bags of sand on the weekend. I carried them one at a time, as they were SO heavy!

I asked Dad how much they weighed and he said they were 20kg bags. I'VE LOST OVER THAT! How on Earth did I carry an extra sand bag around with me all day, EVERY day?!

:)

My personal trainer takes great delight in making me carry around 18kg in weight to make me do lunges, stair climbs etc. "This is how much extra you were carrying around! You should be able to do this easy!". Yeah, mate, makes me that much quicker to deck you!

I tried on a size 16 fitted shirt yesterday and it fit - so excited.  I have not been in a size 16 top for over 25 years :)

Went to the Dr for blood test results to compare to pre op results, pre op cholesterol was a little high, liver function was a little off, iron was a bit out of whack - in general everything was just blaahhh.
Post op - everything in the fantastic zone and the healthiest Vit D level she'd seen in a while, apparently I'm healthier than the 26yo whose results she'd also received. Pretty happy with that!

Annndd the size 16 jeans I'm wearing today that were too tight this time last year, I can now take off without undoing - think they will be going in the giveaway bag soon.

This week, I asked for help. I got help from my GP, help from my new councillor (she's a GP too but specialises in weight) and help from my PT. My partner offered help, as did my parents, and so I feel like the luckiest girl in the world. Times have been tough, but I'm on the mend.

Hi Ada,

Feeling Wonderful is right - and a bit disjointed and not quite right - was interesting to see what else was going to fit, but will make do with what i have for now

For the record, I just typed "non scale" in to the search window and got every thread in the world except this one, and had to search through 4 windows before I found it......ergo, the search function is crap, for those promoting it.

Almost put me off my NSV news I was going to report.

I'm sitting here reading through the posts, checking emails and looking over Facebook (like I do on a Sat morning), and didn't even realise I've put aside the last 1/4 of my french toast (with mushrooms on top). I looked over and there it was. That's never happened before.

I remembered another two.

1. I no longer have to use an anti-dandruff shampoo. My scalp is still a little flaky but it's not itchy. I put this down to my dietary changes. (Dandruff is fungal and fungal loves sugar. I starved it to death.)

2. I was reminded the other day when I saw an ad for those little Hollywood tape strips on sale of another NSV I've had that I hadn't even thought about. When I was much bigger, when I wore a skirt or dress, due to the weight of my massive belly jiggling around, my undies were forever falling down, so I had to use those little tape things to hold my undies up. This just isn't an issue anymore. Thank goodness !

I went shopping for a few new items of clothes this week and had to buy size 14's, size 16 was just too big.  The first time it happened I had a little tear in my eye.

I was stuck in the middle of a protest with no way out, except for jumping the tram barrier in the middle of the road.

Me, anxiety girl.. jumped that barrier with no hesitation in front of thousands of people without even a hint of anxiety.. things are looking up :) my boyfriend was very impressed.

My latest is when I'm out riding without the cycling shorts on, my lose stomach skin slaps on my thighs every time the pedals go around.

I went shopping at one of my fav shops and the top I wanted wasn't in my normal size (post band size). The lady said I could try the size 18 and I about fell over laughing. Hubby said to give it a crack, you never know!

I'm now the owner of a very pretty blouse...size 18  :D  and yes, I had a little cry in the car on the way home.

This nearly made this big guy cry to cause I know exactly how you felt, just this afternoon while at Woolies a lady approached me and wanted to know how I'd shed so much weight and then went on to tell me how thin and lovely I looked.

I told her about my band and how I'd reversed my diabetes and how healthy I feel, Marilyn is a larger sized lady and tomorrow I'm going to give her a run down on my journey because she's been thinking about a band for several years and just hasn't been game.

I decided to take some measurements today. I started doing this not long after surgery but had let it slide for a month. It seems that was a good thing as now I see some good numbers.

August

0.5 in off my bust

2.5 in off my waist

2 inches off my hips

0.5 inches off my calf L

and 1 inch off my upper arm R.

My waist has now lost 8 inches in total. At times the scales don't reflect what is happening with our shapes. The tape measure however is much friendlier.... well it was for me today.  ;)

So I bought some new trousers to wear Saturday night, just tried them on and thought really not dressy enough, tried on a dress I bought last Christmas that was too tight but on sale and ohhhh so lovely. Even a month ago looked too tight on my hips. Tried it on tonight and OMG, I think I'm going to look smashing! All those bloody lunges with the PT are working! I haven't lost any weight for a couple of months but I am shrinking ;) so excited. Hopefully my other half is as appreciative!
