Tongue Ulcers?? B12 Deficiency?

Recommended Posts

Has anybody experienced clusters of VERY painful bumps/ulcers on their tongue?

I have them at the moment and it's making it very painful to eat, talk, kiss, and just leaving me miserable and irritable in general. I have just been reading up on them online to try and find a remedy to help soothe my tongue, and i noticed that it can be part of a nutrition deficiency, like from lack of vitamin B12 and folic acid.

I'm wondering if anybody has had them and has seen a doctor about them? Has anybody got a remedy for it? It's driving me bonkers.

Try putting on some Vegemite I know it sounds funny but it works it might burn a bit at first and try not to swallow it as soon as you put it on. Another thing that might help is to gurgle with salt water 1 teaspoon to one cup of boiled water (cooled down).

I know how you feel as I've only just often rid of a tongue ulcer that was there almost a week.

I find a product called Kenalog fantastic ..it's like a paste that stays where you put it.Doesn't taste nice but does the trick if you persevere with it.

I get ulcers when I eat foods that are not part of my usual diet..I always end up with one whenever I eat out ...interesting hey.

Hope you get some relief soon. :-)

I get them occasionally.  I chew on a couple of Tums a day, then generally after the first day they are a lot better. Higher than normal stomach acid can cause mouth ulcers.

I usually get them when I eat too much sugar/chocolate. Sometimes with too much salty food. But for me it's always diet related (unless I bite my tongue - which happens way too often!)

I usually end up with mouth ulcers (& sometimes an ulcerated scalp too) if I happen to eat some wheat in my diet without knowing.

However, have had terrible trouble with PBing for the last week on and off, thanks to an overly tight band. So am wondering if it's likely the gastric fluids which have caused mine...?

Ouchie :-(

From past experience, mistakes of my youth...  (I was anorexic) my mouth was full of ulcers from lack of B12 amongst many other important nutrients etc.  Later in life I found out about the Vegemite trick and it really does work put it straight on the ulcer and leave it there as long as you can.  Check out what foods you can eat that increase B12 or get a supplement to take it will make a difference.  Avoid acidic foods in the meantime like oranges, strawberries, kiwi fruit as they will hurt like hell!

Wow ! Thanks everyone for the tips.

I've called my CFS specialist and asked him to send out a new Rx for Vitamin B12 injections... They helped with all sorts of things last time I had a series of injections, so will be hoping this helps again.

And eggzy - my daughter has just started having gum (to contend with her own issues) and I've been having some too - probably about 3x Extra per day... So this could also be causing or contributing to the problem.

Much appreciated !

I get ulcers if I eat pineapple, kiwi fruit, passionfruit, bananas, oranges or strawberries.  The acid content and something to do with latex does it apparently.

Pineapple has enzymes that actually eat your flesh lol. Thats why your tongue gets that prickly sensation when you eat it.....fun fact :P

V boring. But I suffered from extreme ulcers a few years back when I was really stressed ANC drinking toooo much wine. It only happened once but I went to the Drs and sorted it out. I know why it happened to me but there are so many reasons. See a dr.

LOL!!  No I can assure you it's just the fruit, apparently they are related to the latex family.  I had a drink on Saturday night that had a small slice of strawberry in it and have 3 ulcers in my mouth as a result :(
