Any September Banders? :)

Recommended Posts

I'm almost 3 weeks post surgery and have lost just under 10kgs. Still having some discomfort around my port site. Weight loss has slowed lots since I introduced mushies but I am happier as I have more variety to eat :0)

Having porridge or yogurt for breakfast, soup or cottage cheese with avocado and salsa for lunch, soup or baked potato with sour cream, avcado and sweet chilli sauce for dinner. Still stuggling to get many calories in most days its less than 500 as I can't fit very much in.

Hope every one is doing well!

Hi Zendaya! I have been ok thank you :)

Food wise I think I still can get down fair bit. I am not eating as much now and feeling more restricted..lost the 2 kg I gained but I still think I am not loosing weight in a good rate as all in all since surgery and Optifast I lost 7 kg while I am restricted with food and started exercise 3 times a week. A bit frustrating but I hope it will come soon. I am going back home to see my family in Dec and was hoping to be under 80 kg as the last time my family saw me I was 65 kg about 2.5 years ago so they will still think I gained a lot of weight but may be they won't be shocked :(

Tinned tuna is fine I had it for lunch today actually with 2 grainy crackers and they went down fine! I just made sure to chew everything very well :)

Hi Slimtamsoon, I am glad all is going well with you x

My first fill was a treat and much easier than I expected..I went on liquids for 2 days then soft food for 1 day. I am ok and feel everything I try still goes down fine..just some discomfort with fruits skin, but still would be able to eat it if I want to. I am going to see Dr.Dolan tomorrow and might get another 2 ml in there to feel more restricted..but will see. I will let u know and I hope your fill goes smoothly as well x

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I last posted, good to see so many great results with everyone😊 I had my band done on the 11/9 and the first 2 weeks I lost 10kg, however since then I've only lost a further 2.6kg, I know this is still good weight loss and I am happy with this but I don't feel the fullness I did in the first 2 weeks, I was just wondering if this is normal and will it change once I get my first fill? I see Dr Baker on the 13/10 for my first post op appointment and am wanting a fill done on this day, will he do it then or will I have to make another appointment do you think? When was everyone else's first fill? I still have 16kg till I reach my goal weight and am hoping to get their by Xmas, am I being unrealistic? Take care everyone😊

Most definitely Zen. I have the sandwich tuna 95g tin, good protein and omega 3's. Standard tuna is flakey so would be great too. I often have a tin with the ring pull lid in my bag with a fork when off on a journey and meals might be inaccessible for a while, as I can eat it straight out of the tin! And with a Vita-Weat Soy and Linseed cracker or two, a couple of cherry tomatoes and that's lunch!

HI Jodwhy - As your body has been healing and the swelling has gone down, the fullness does dissipate. When you have your fill, it will definately return to some extent, based on how much fill is put into your band - have a chat to your specialist about how you are feeling. My first fill I had 3 mls put in and noticed the restriction. I have had two more fills since then, one with 2 mls and another on Friday with an additional 1.6mls, which made my band too tight so I had 0.4mls removed today and feel much better.

It's different for everyone and only you are able to determine how  much / little you require to achieve your goals.

I also started going to the gym a lot more than I would prior to banding and have achieved a much higher level of fitness, which helps when I see the results of the weight coming off.

Your appointment should include a fill - my first post op did, if he says that he wants to wait, discuss the reasons why you want the fill, as the fill only takes a minute or two to be done it should be no problems with having one done.

Thanks Zendaya, I still feel like I should lose in a faster rate but I am not complaining at least no weight gain :)

I went for another fill today with Dr.Dolan and again it wasn't a problem and all went smoothly. I have 5.5ml in my 10 ml band now and I am on liquids again for 3 days including today. I am hoping to feel the restriction now and not need anymore fill till I go away in Dec.

I hope everyone is doing well :)

Hello everyone, just a quick question, when talking about the 8 golden rules of lap band the Dr says eat half a cup of food 3 times a day, does that half a cup include salad or is salad unlimited? The portion controlled plate says I can have a fair amount of salad and small amounts of the food that adds calories so I'm just wanting to confirm this with someone. Thanks guys😊

Hi Everyone,

Its been a while since I have posted so I thought I would firstly Say... Congratulations to everyone who has had the band recently! You all seem to be doing so well!

This coming Monday 13th of October is my 3 weeks post op date and recovery is going well. I am pretty much all healed up just a bit of bruising left and the main scar is tender as well as the port area.

I do admit that my hunger increased as the swelling decreased and until I see my surgeon next week I am eating a lot smaller portions but using calorie counting to keep me at 1000 calories a day max. I am feeling pretty satisfied and no trouble eating solids at all.

Since starting Opti fast ( 2 weeks prior to Op) I have lost 11.8kgs as of today! I do admit after the banding it slowed down a bit. ( when I went to hospital I has lost 6kgs).

Hope everyone else is doing well and any newbies all the best of luck.

Leese_88 who was your surgeon? Chan or Scott?

I am hoping to be banded by Mr Scott in January :-)

I had the lap band installed 9 years ago and had it removed end of January this year as I was having issues. Could have had a new one replaced at the same time but we had to up our PHI to cover it as things changed cover wise so decided to see how I went by myself..... not good at all.... back were I started 9 years ago :-(

Hi Mumma Poss

I was banded by Dr Chan, I found him ok a little Slap Dash to be honest.

If I was so caught up in the moment I would of found another surgeon.

No issues but I didn't feel that he checked me out at all.

He didn't check my liver to see if it was too fatty and just said do Optifast for 2 weeks.

I saw him once I found out my original surgeon had retired and I found him to be not really friendly or inviting.

But have since found Dr David Scott and he is so much better. Nice, friendly and welcoming. He really knows his stuff and is in it for the long haul.

Your weight loss is looking great, well done keep up the great work.

Slimtamsoon! Congrats on your first fill :)

Pls be careful with trying foods as I made a mistake and I swallowed a piece of chicken while I was cooking for my kids without thinking that I have the band and I had the worst 10 min of my life with that piece of chicken stuck in my chest and i have strange condition of not being able to vomit! Anyway it passed somehow after a while but it was horrible!

I hope all is going well with everyone!

Hi everyone,

I had my first fill last night, I went in and had 1ml. I didn't actually realise that when I had the op the surgeon had already put in 3 ml so in total I have 4ml.
I'm feeling good today just a little sore at the port site but nothing major at all.

I was actually really surprised how easy and pain free the fill was!

Seems like everyone else is doing very well!! x

Hey everyone,

Just checking in.  Was banded on the 16th of September and thankfully have had no issues, except some nausea for the first week.  Seeing my surgeon, I think next week or the week after. Have lost almost 11 kgs and feeling really positive.  Have started on my mushies and that was bliss I can tell you, and will start introducing more solid food over the next week or so - and looking forward to that too.

It is great to have a site like this where it is possible to speak and get advice from people that have been through the same things.

Hi guys , I've come here for a "pick me up " it's been 3 weeks since my surgery . I've lost about 8 kilos .

I was told to have mushies for 2 weeks but was just so hungry all the time I started some solids just chewed well . I can't help but feel like a failure , I'm also thinking " just another thing I've failed "

I know I will get a fill soon but get scared that I'm going to be someone who can't keep anything down and I'm scared of something going wrong like my band slipping . Anyone else ever felt like this ? :(

Hey Renee27, first congrats on the great loss! 8 kg in 3 weeks is huge!!

Don't be hard on urself the same thing happend to me I even gained 2 kg in the process and I was feeling horrible! But I went and had my first fill at the 4 weeks mark and felt the restriction then went for another one a week after..it is not easy and I know for some people it just seem like they lose weight really quick but it's just different from one person to another! Just as long as u r feeling better and still losing or not gaining, after the fill, is a huge success! I have lost 10 kg since surgery 6 weeks ago and I keep gaining 2 of them and then losing them again :(

It is frustrating but I am trying to figure out the new life I want for myself and it will take time. Concentrate on the big picture and think that this will be a way of life, I am telling myself too :)

Keep in touch and I am sure once u have ur first fill u will be fine ;)

Renee, you're doing great! 8 kilos is a fantastic loss :). Don't beat yourself up about "cheating", why not give the clinic a call, maybe you'll be able to have a chat with the doc or dietician to get some advice and put your mind at rest?

Try not to get down on yourself, you're just at the start of a life changing journey. This is what I keep telling myself (I've just ordered a bracelet that has "Enjoy the journey" engraved on it so I can wear it as a reminder lol).

Hi September banders - I have a question for you all.  I am being banded on 3th November and I am sorta wondering where I will be by xmas time so basically 6 weeks after banding.  I do the big xmas lunch for our family - I don't normally try to do healthy foods but a lot of them if you know what I mean.  I love the whole process the searching for recipes - making the menu - maybe not the cooking to all hours on 24th - getting it all ready and having everyone enjoy the day.  Which I can see no reason why I still cant do that for everyone else - but what will I be able to eat?  I am someone a secret bander but my family all know so its not like I will need to be making excuses for what I can eat I just want to know what will it be - a 1/2 cup xmas dinner - and well hey its not like I didn't know that is what it will be but just thinking about it at the moment.
