Hi Everyone,

For the last week or so myself and the other moderators have had to deal with some disagreements between some of you. Now, i know that emotions can sometimes get riled up, but myself and the other moderators hate to have to get involved. We are people going through the same sort of struggles as you every day, and I personally hate having to "have a word" with any of you.

Today I saw this note at the bottom of Stripey's signature, and I thought it perfectly summed up some of the issues we have been having on the site. I would ask you to read the following words and take it on board. Fighting over which surgeon is right, or whose dietician is more or less correct doesn't really help any of us.

"NB I love this site and am a frequent poster. I only post my personal opinions and have no medical or other basis for those than my experience and my interpretation of those. Different docs, different bands, different patient history and medications require different approaches - your own doc with your file in hand should be first call for medical advice"

Please remember, this is a support forum, not a general discussion forum. We are here to help each other through what can be a taxing and emotionally painful journey. I know some of you disagree with my approach, and believe that "the hard truth" needs to be spoken, but ultimately I want this place to be a supportive, welcoming and encouraging community.

If you don't agree with that approach, you are welcome to find somewhere else that you prefer.

Thanks guys!

Dave

Very well said Dave, and Stripey's signature sums things up perfectly. I love coming to this forum as it has been such a source of support and information for me, so would hate to see negativity spoilt it.

I think this is an amazing place for support and help for those of us who are considering or have a band... I agree with Dave entirely and it would be a shame to spoil it by using it as a platform to push individual opinions... After all we are all different, and different things will suit different people. :)

Very well said Dave, as a mental health professional I have been dismayed by the content written over the past few weeks and decided that I would do without "support" if this was to be the norm. Support means positive encouragement, no advice giving and non-judgement.

At the Banding Lounge it states:
Up for a chat? Join us in the Bandit's lounge to discuss anything you want (well, within reason!), so my understanding is that this part of the site is for general chit chat and yes support for and from other members.

I've just logged on after a few weeks away from this site. I am not surprised by Dave's post. I was getting a bit sick of the same kind of negative comments from the some people. Most on this site are very friendly and helpful, but sadly, I think some people try to hinder the success of others. If you are not happy with the way you are travelling, then you are the only one that can fix it.

I am going well, and have the support of everyone around me. I love my band and the lifestyle it is helping me to acheive. I never thought I would love going to the gym as much as I do.

We are the keepers of our destiny, and only I can do this.

the hard truth is, you cant ban anyone permanently. Not possible on the interbutt and you know it. you can only ban those who dont know how to disconnect their modem and reconnect, dont know how to google proxy or dont know how to pick up their phone and ask their provider to reset their IP.

Im REALLY suprised you have HTML and so much code turned on in posts. it would only take one person put some untoward code in a post to bring the whole site down or gain all these peoples private details.

Dont hate people for being human. As they say - you cant stop a dog from pissing on a hydrant. its what they do.

Youre kinda sexy when you make empty threats tho ;)
