Hi - I'm new to the site this week and am amazed at the great things going on on the boards here.

I'm 39, about 135 kg and over it... seriously over it....

I'm booked in for Surgery with Ms Wendy Brown here in Melbourne, but not until April 3rd... waiting on my health insurance to tick over the 12 month mark...

Until then I'm trying to move more, eat less carbs, eat more protein, and basically get my act together... But time is dragging.... and I'm struggling with the evening carb cravings.... the lack of motivation to exercise... etc. etc. etc.

Bit of a lurker normally - but am trying to stop watching and start doing... it's kind of the point of the whole thing really...

Looking forward to a brilliant 2012, but an even more brilliant 2013!

I'm sure it seems like it is a long way off but April 3 will be here before you know it!!

One of the hardest things I've found to master post band is the chew, chew, chew, chewing and eating slowly. Might be worth starting to work on your new habits for eating whilst you wait?

Great to see you posting and not just lurking!!

Hi

When I went to see my dietitian she said to start eating off a smaller plate and leaving food behind on the plate once you were satisfied. Also as shorty said to start learning to chew at least 15 times.

good luck

Hi I'm not sure if it will help heaps, but I stopped eating white potato when I got the band. I now focus on sweet potato, corn, carrot or swede for my carb cravings. They are slightly better for you. But any real food is better than processed food. And how you prepare them helps heaps, i.e don't deep fry the sweet potato. I still use a good olive oil in small moderation, infused with garlic for flavour. I also add a sprinkle of sea salt, chopped mint and lime juice to peas and broccoli, so much easier to eat lots of.

I found chewing the hardest thing to learn and cooking. I never was one for it, all my meals these days take 10 minutes to cook or less. I'm still very much learning but have googled so many recipes. Good luck.

Thanks Shorty, Whits75 and SuzyK - chewing is my challenge, and I choose to accept it! Normally I'm more of an inhaler!

Have already started using some smaller cutlery, plates and bowls - that's working not too bad - it is amazing how big a serve we tend to put on our big plates and how your vision of your food influences how much you can eat... My Mum always talks about how when they were first married their dinner set had much smaller plates - and she wished she'd kept them!

Also refusing to buy new clothes until I can fit in a smaller size.... and desperately need some new work pants! Here's hoping they don't fall apart on me and I don't flash my butt at the boss in the first week!

Hi Garfie90,

I can totally relate to your impatience. I also had to wait for my health insurance to reach the 12 month mark. I met with my surgeon and dietitian and booked my appointment for surgery back in April of 2011. I am being banded on February 6 (only 2 weeks to go!).

It has gone so slowly for me too! the last month especially...but i have used the time to get as much information as i can.

I know it will be well and truly worth the wait!
All the best,

Jacqui

I have a little count down app on my phone. It's currently reading 63 days. . Which is s bit of a shock.

Hey Jacqui. . Your app would say 7 days! Have a great week!

MissA - what date in april are you up?
