BMI Centre Joondalup

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

If you are interested, there is a web page on Facebook for the new Bariatric Medicine Incorporated centre in Joondalup. It is run by Dr Johannes Basson, Dr Len Henson, Dr David Yong, and Dr Anton Kruger. It is a centre that manages all aspects of the banding procedure, and hosts the surgeons, psychologist, dietician, and Dr Kruger provides the fills as well as cosmetic procedures such as Botox and fillers. This is a centre that focuses on after care, and will also host cooking classes for banded clients, as well as information seminars in the near future. Anyone is welcome to the centre, even if you have not been banded by the above surgeons.

Here is the web page if you would like to become a fan, and follow all the latest news.

I had my first appointment with Dr Henson today at the new BMI clinic and it cost me $120 and i will have to go to medicare for a rebate.. Is this the going rate? i was suprised as i thought there was no cost!!Initial Gp app cost $80 with rebate, I have paid for my first app with Dr Bssoon hundred and something cant remeber and got rebate, i am to pay $1250 aftercare (to be paid upfront), $200 psych, plus dietician.. i'm hoping that is it but from initial phone call(free) its starting to add up. I need to go to my GP now and get a PLAN whatever that may be-which will also cost me!! In the end the money is not an issue .. the issue is that i was not informed of costs, even when initially asked i was told it would be covered..my appointment today seemed to be a waste of time, nothing was established, no further appointments were made with centre or other services. All i know is that i will get banded on 22nd March and that i need to lose weight before surgery-2 wks optisfat.. Psychologist was not mentioned.. Mentioned was tht io am morbidily obese and have sleep apnea and that i am a good candidate for lapband and that he will see me for my fills.. lol must be an easier process then what i thought!!!

Just thought id share :) abit annoyed on the lack of input, info and support from practioners but anyway cant wait for surgery.. this forum has and will give me the input i need....Thanks to you all!

Hi Success. Sorry to hear about your journey so far. Perhaps I jumped the gun a bit with the fees, but so far I have been bulk billed. I was not banded by anyone there, so maybe that is why. Different surgeons ask for different things, I know that with Dr basson my hubby had to see the psych, but with Dr Dolan I just saw the dietician and had an ultrasound, and both of those were bulk billed. Not sure what the GP plan is all about, I didn't have to do that.

The centre is still fairly new, and I do know that there have been teething problems. I am hoping that they get an information package together in the near future, as that would be very helpful to new patients. I am also hoping to start an informal support group of some kind, to help people transition into their newly banded lives. They have made me admin of their FB page, so I am hoping that this is the start of an affiliation with them on a non-formal basis, and that I may help to bridge the gap between professional help and personal experience. It is nice to have a port of contact with people who have been on the journey, and know what the ride can be like.

Best of luck for March, I will be following your progress!

Hello Ladies,

Just to let you know that, BMI is now supporting a local dietitian who runs cooking classes in the northern suburbs. If you feel that would would like some more ideas on some suitable meals to cook with your lap band, then enquire at the reception. She has experience with seeing banding clients and can help people to get more protein and vegies into their diet through meals that are delicious and well tolerated by banders. Plus its enjoyable and a way to meet other banders and discuss over a meal:-)

There are 2 GP's who also work out of the centre, Dr Anton Kruger, and Dr Len Henson. They will be able to refer you after an initial appointment.

http://www.bariatricmedicine.com.au/ is the website, and there will also be an information seminar held on March 29, from 7-9pm, where I will be a guest speaker.

Hope that helps

D

hi there,

I was a patient of Dr Dolan but left his clinic when Dr Kruger left. He has now done my fill at BMI and I must say I am very impressed with the place and the staff are great. They bulk bill the fills and Dr Kruger is just great.

I was operated on 2 years ago at another centre but got no follow up. Nothing was explained to me and I only had 1 fill. The surgeon did not explain about diet or food choices. I was recommended to go to BMI by a friend and saw Dr Kruger. What a difference!!!! He explained how the band worked, discussed diet, discussed exercise and portion sizes. He then did a fill with no pain. I went back this week and after 3 weeks had lost 2kg!! I am so happy to have found someone to help me.

I am having my band done on Thursday 22nd March through BMI Joondalup, I have found them to be wonderful, my surgeon in Dr Yong, he has been more than thorough I am a type 1 diabetic and had no problems with him comunicating with my specialists so have found it very smooth sailing with everything in the BMI clinic :)

Hi Losingit, I too was banded by another clinic and had bad follow up, they didn't seem to care. Now that I have found BMI I couldn't be happier. Doing well again, got under the 100kgs, got visitors here at the minute from UK, so going out s lot, so not as good as IncouLd be, but still relatively on track. Aiming for goal by end of year when youngest turns 21 and oldest graduates. I will do it, and I find this website great. Good luck on your journey. Anne

I'm so glad I found this page. I had my band done back in March 09 with Dr Dolan. I was happy with it for the first 2 yrs. I got down to 1.5kgs from his goal, a loss of 30kg

Then I went to see one of the Dr's at Dolans clinic and she wanted to see how much fill I still had in my band, I asked her not to take it out as I had heard stories from people saying that they never found their "sweet spot" after it happened to then. Anyways she did this and yes, I still had the same amount the computer said I had and since then, you guessed it, i've never found that sweet spot again. I've been overfilled and had to go to Joondalup emergencie (last easter in fact) I've been back for 3 fills and still no luck and then last month I had 2mls taken out! I've went back last week and had .3ml put in.

I was so disappointed I stopped going back and I have put on 8kgs last year. I will be making an appointment to see Dr Kruger, I did see him at Dolans surgery and thought highly of him, when I went to go back to him I found out that he had left.

I need to get back on track!

I'm going to book with Dr Kruger at BMI for my next appointment.

I want to see what other support services they offer. I could never get an appt with the dietican at the same time and I didnt want to have to make 2 appt as it takes me 1hr 1/2 to get to each appt.

I`m so happy at the moment!!! Lost 4.5kg in 6 weeks. All the advice and support I got since going to BMI has been great. The advice from the dietician and Dr Kruger seems to have made such a difference. I advise people to follow your doctors advice and you will be amazed at the results !!
