Same story as everyone else I guess....
Middle Aged (according to my sister) but only 33. Big all my life, always the biggest in my school and always the tallest, I use to pray that I would wake up and just be "normal". When I was 12 I started sneeking my Dad and Mums smokes cause I heard somewhere that they would stop me from getting taller and fatter !!!
In my early 20's I discovered diet pills and lived on them for the best part of 3 years and of course I lost 35kg and became the normal I was praying for. Going to the gym 5 days a week, swimming, walking, etc in between taking the pills I would do weight watchers, jenny craig etc etc, and I did manage to keep it off for a while but I was CONSTANTLY going from one diet to the next to keep it off,and then would have another stint on the diet pills. I met my husband when I was normal (70kgs), I was secretly still doing the WW/ diet pill shuffle and after a couple of years moved in together so I could no longer do the pill and within six months + 7 kgs, so another diet was taken on but couldn't shift it, 2 years later we were married, add another 8kgs. one year later built a house and I had another 7kgs on...bless him, he never said a word. Add 2 babies after that I am back to exactly where I started. 105kg....Funny thing is over the past 8years that Ive put back on the 35kgs I have been on a diet constantly.....Jenny Craig, WW (again!!!) South Beach Diet, Dietitians, etc etc....
I am jealous of my friends/family that only have to mention eating healthy and they lose weight. I have done the exact same diet as my mum at the same time and used the same PT and she lost 20kgs and I lost 1.6kg !!! how unfair my body can be sometimes....
So this is it...the answer to my prayer has been found and I have decided, with the help of my husbands support that banding is the best way for me.and my body to be able to succesfully loose weight and KEEP IT OFF.
I have had my blood test and ultrasound done and have my appointment with the surgeon on Wednesday. I am so thankful that someone is going to help me at last!!!
An going through the public system with Dr. Basson at Joondalup BMI......has anyone used him?
So glad I found this site as only you lovely people and my husband will know and will be my support. I come from a long line of closed off minds who have always sat at their perfect weight, and as such hold the view of being banded "cheating"
anyway there my story

Thanks for telling your story. Quite alot of people on this site seem to have gone through Dr Basson, so you will be able to pick their brains.
Look forward to keeping in touch - we are planning a Perth Get together soon (early Feb) so feel free to join us. I have only been banded since Oct 27, so I am still quite new on the band journey but so far so good.
You have taken the first and hardest step, and believe me once it is all done, you wont look back.
Talk soon

Good luck with your journey. The people on this site are amazing and incredibly supportive. I am a kiwi and no one holds it against me:) I have been banded 20 months now and lost over 30kgs. The weight loss had slowed for some time but has just recently begun moving again, I think I am in the green zone. I have taken on board the advice from my doctor about exercise which has helped immensely. Everyone here has some great ideas about everything from meal choices to exercise to getting your head around the changes.
Take care and I look forward to hearing how it is going.

The preparation stages are often the hardest to work through - will it work? will I be ok? will I be able to cope? Yes, Yes & Yes!
I wish you luck on Wednesday & cannot wait to hear your success as you embark on this life changing journey.
Take care & thank you for sharing your story.
Bye for now,
Sarah

Newby, congrats on your decision on getting banded and as others have mentioned we are planning an informal picnic early Feb (prob the 5th in Kings Park) so it would be great if you could join us (bring your hubby and kids) and pick our brains. Swing by the WA forums for details

your story sounds very familiar to many here, just remember the band works well with your help its not a magic solution although
I have found my journey relatively problem free many do struggle with different things..I love my band and the one regret is I waited
too long before taking the journey..
Once again WELCOME to the group and Good luck with your journey I look forward to your success ..
Chat later
