Hi, My name is Matt and I have waited for a year to be able to wait for my health insurance to tick over for me to get the band
I started trying to self fund but my Surgeon did not agree with me doing this so that has been a good thing for me as I started to loose weight by myself and am down to 134 kilos ( from 168).
I have an appointment with Mr Burton next week as he was the surgeon I dealt with before, I am nervous of course but after so many years of weight loss and massive gains I am ready for this!.
I am grateful this site exists as I do not know what I would do without this brillant resource!!!!!! I hope that I can get the band done sooner rather than later as I want to continue the weight loss without having to weight any longer, I get that I have to be patient but at age 41 I want to start living again and not hiding out being ashamed of how large I am. I have lost a friend due to her reaction to my getting the band ( She is very large as well) Sad about that too but I wont let any one else deny me this chance to be happier with my life... :D

Congratulations on your weight loss so far! I'm seeing a surgeon on the 7th, and am self funding. I'm just wondering why your surgeon didn't recommend this for you?
You have obviously spent your year waiting getting yourself to the optimal health for the start of the journey, and have already commenced your weight loss. I'm just afraid that another year may see me fatter, more tired, and more removed from life than I am now. I can't wait to start!
I look forward to following your journey.

i think you're amazing having lost all that weight by yourself.i'm being banded in march but i had to wait for a year for my health fund to kick in,i can't wait till its over cos i'm getting very nervous now.don't worry about your friend if she was your friend she would have supported you.it's her loss.

Thanks for the comments everyone, I have been having second thoughts at times not knowing that it is the right thing for me or not but you what I have lost weight so many times but then put it plus loads more back on that I know that the lapband is the thing that will really help me, as long as I am strong and willing to work hard at it I will be alright!. It means a lot to me to get your replies caughtbetween, bme and Francesca.
