When I was on Pre-op, I wasnt really allowed to have pumpkin as its still a carb... my dietitian did say after my op that if I had blown out on carbs, she wouldnt have minded if it had been pumpkin (wish she had told me that pre-op!!).. but best to check with your doc/dietitian :)

I love roast pumpkin - I usually dice it into cubes, roast them (with a little sweet potato) and make a nice salad with beetroot,( pine nuts, pepitas, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds - optional), some low fat ricotta and a handful of torn spinach leaves. You can either have a very light dressing of balsamic/evoo or if you are being very good it is yummy without as well..

Look it's not the end of the world to have some carbs in your diet, after all the AMDR for carbohydrate daily intake is 45-65%. However as bandits we should aim for a more reasonable 15-25% contribution to our daily intake.

All vegatables are great and who said the potatoesaren't allowed, I steam all my vegetables and I eat heaps and continue to loose.
I grow the Jap pumpkins and there so lovely when mashed up with the sweet potato.

Sweet potato is great for everyone.
I eat plenty of pumpkin too.
My surgeon and dietician would be amazed to hear that anyone has been advised not to eat either of those.
The most current dietery recommendation is to 'eat a rainbow' and include as many brightly and different coloured vegetables as you can, as often as you can. I am certain that this applies to lap banders too (in very small amounbts of course!).

Neddy, some of the dieticians believe that starchy vegetables are a no-no. My surgeon and dietician are big on pushing the green leafy veg and requesting we stear clear of starches. Having said that - when I'm invited to Mum's for Sunday roast I will always have a piece of roast pumpkin because, well, YUM.

I assumed that because this thread was started in the "pre-op recipes" section that Mariska was on Opti-fast, which is why potato and sweet potato was a no-no.... when I was on opti-fast, pumpkin was also not allowed....

But I may be wrong, she may have been meaning after the operation??

My advice is to eat the pumpkin. You may not be able to tolerate it after banding. I ALWAYS have trouble with pumpkin! I still try and eat it though because pumpkin rocks!
