I always 'check' the before and after pictures on the well known diet shake/diet fad adds and scoff at some of the claims. 'I lost 38kgs thanks to *insert name of diet fad here*' as the before doesn't appear to be heavy enough to weigh that much. Or they appear heavier in the before then the amount lost.
I have also been reviewing the before and after pictures on this site and some 'fit' the weightloss amount in my mind and others don't.
When I was at my heaviest, I am not sure if I carried the weight very well, but I only started to get compliments regarding my weightloss after losing in excess of 40kgs. My own parents couldn't believe my starting weight. They knew I was going for the op and encouraged me, but I don't think they realised just how big I was.
I know it has a lot to do with height, however I am not a particularly tall person. I also carried a LOT of weight on my boobs and ass, so it may be the positioning of the weight that made it appear less?
Even now, I still look fat to myself. I can't personally see the weightloss (besides the horribly deflated boobs :S) and my ass is still the size of a small country.
Do you ever look at the adverts and go, 'That doesn't seem right'? Have you ever had a friend mention their weightloss and think 'She didn't look that big'?

Yep, people def carry weight differently. Even on here in the gallery, where we have 'real' stories (as opposed to marketing), I can't get over the differences between me and them. THere are a few girls my own age, who have similar starting stats and goal weights, and I am heaps bigger. My best friend is heavier than me, but wears clothes that are numerous sizes smaller (I know cos Ive tried to borrow clothes and they dont fit). I am very flabby for my weight. I think it has a lot to do with a) carrying almost all my weight around the middle (apple shape) b )having had 2 babies c) having yo-yo'ed my whole life so my skin is just a mass of stretch marks so it doenst actually hold anything in!

Yes most definitely. I was 103kg and NO ONE believed it.. everyone said as if, your only like 85/90kgs. One of my really good friends was also exactly the same weight as me and she wore bigger clothes then me and looked larger (in a nice way) then i did.
People still look at me now that iv lost 13kgs and say as if your that big.. well yes i am!! I have the scales to prove it.
Height is a big factor.

I have found this has changed as I have aged. I seemed to weigh more, but wear smaller size clothing than the 'comparable' stories in weight loss magazines. That was women of similar age, height and weight as me, but wearing clothing 2-3 sizes bigger. Now I have 'spread' more in the middle and my clothing size has gone up while my weight is not much different.

I carry all my weight in my stomach. I don't have a big ass, but I had big boobs which I liked (and now miss as they are saggy too). I've lost 17 kilos and it's only noticeable in my face to other people. Especially in photos. To me, I used to see my boobs, my tummy and no toes. I can see my toes now and my tummy is smaller than my boobs (but no one else notices). People used to ask me if I was pregnant all the time! At bra shops they used to drag me to the maternity section thinking I was expecting any day. It got annoying very quickly. My legs were cute still.
I hate those shows! I agree that the before pics and after pics don't look realistic for supposedly 15 kilo, 20 kilo losses. Like i was a size 10, I lost 10 kilos and am now a size 8! Weight loss is suppose to be 5-6kilos per dress size. Depends where your loosing it I guess.
I've learnt mainly from this sight not to compare anymore. I lost 17 kilos and have gone down one dress size. :S I'm dying to buy jeans from just jeans, but am still too fat.

No one at work thought I was big enough to qualify for WLS. I carry the vast majority of my weight around my middle. Got the boobs and the belly and no waist to speak of. Well I do have one, but it is my widest point. It sucks when you are trying to by pants. I've got a relatively flat ass and it is one of the first places I loose weight. So to get pants to fit my belly they are normally saggy on my butt.
You see how big I am if I wear anything tight and I notice it when I am naked. I am a lot heavier than I look (so I think). My hubby is the same. He is 120kg and no one will believe his is that heavy when they see him (unless he has his shirt off
). Yet my friend keeps all her weight in her boobs and butt and looks bigger than me but she swears she is only between 80-85kg. WTF? I weight 92-96kg depending on when and where I weigh myself. Of course, teh woman in question is also a pathalogical liar.

I completely understand. My sister is shorter then me and wider than me. In photos she looks rounder than me and especially in her face. Yet she was telling me she weighed 92 kilos when I was 107 kilos! She was able to fit into size 16 pants when I was size 20, however I was in size 16-18 tops and she was size 20. It was really hard to get my head around. Everyone guessed she was the bigger out of the two but I was 19 kilos heavier. It played with her self esteem and mine too.

I think posture and the way you carry yourself plays a part too.

Yeah, I have a similar issue with my sister. She got all the 'good' genes, she has been thin her entire life until recently apparently she is now 'horribly' overweight at around the 70kg mark. Thats my goal weight and I would be thrilled if I weighed that much!
Now that I no longer have any boobs to hide my tummy, I have noticed that it now appears a lot larger then before. I think I am heading from a hour glass to a tummy/bottom heavy body shape.
And yes Kylie, I think your before and after shots were one of the ones I thought, 'No way does she weight that', you look really good regardless of the weight the scale says.

My other sister is anorexic. She is super tall almost 2m and weighs only 45kilos! We're pretty sure she was the milk mans child. She's blonde and the rest of my family are brunettes LOL
