Hi All
I am having my op on the 7th March and start my pre-op diet on the 22nd Feb and I was just wondering what everyone else had as i thought i was to have just the shakes for the 2 weeks prior to the op but my surgeon advised me that i can have a shake for breakfast and lunch and then for dinner i can have steamed fish or chicken and steamed green vegetables. Is this what others have had?

Different surgeons ask for different things. Some people have to do three meal replacements a day, some only two like you. And some lucky buggers don't have to do any at all
Just go with what your surgeon is telling you (unless you want to do it more hard core)

My doc told us 2 shakes a day and small.meal at night. Meal had to be weighed portions of food and certain foods together. I had to do this for 3 weeks post op. My husband the same but 4 weeks of the pre op.
You will find that everyone is a bit.different . Right down to the types of shakes. We took kickstart shakes. Some.take optifast, some sire slim, it really just depends..
I think its best to listen to your doctor and go with that as they are tailoring this to your individual situation.
Goodluck ,

my doc told me 3 weeks of optifast with 2 cups of low starch vegies, 2 L water and i was told only one optifast bar per day (not sure why?)
i guess just depends on the doc - they all seem to be pretty varied as to what they prefer ...

My surgeon had nothing to do with my meals which was left up to a brilliant dietician thats works in with the surgeon.
If I remember correctly I was allowed the 3 shakes a day, liquid soup, jelly and salads.

Hi Jayshay...
Im having surgery the day after you.... but i started my pre-op diet on Wednesday 15 Feb, so 3 weeks for me. Im also allowed 1 diet cola drink a day as I dont drink tea.
My diet plan is something like this though per week
BREAKFAST
5 x breakfasts of kicstart shakes
2 x eggs x 2 and spinach/tomato/mushroom/onion etc
MORNING TEA
8 x macadamia or hazel nuts (I had to go for mixed nuts as approved by Dietician)
LUNCH
5 x lunches of kicstart shakes
2 x lunches of chicken and salad wraps (I dont have the wraps cos Im gluten intolerant)
AFTERNOON TEA
1-2 mandarines or oranges
DINNER
3 x red meat
2 x fish
2 x chicken
with salad/veg and must be 50% ratio
(I am allowed flavourings like low fat balsamic dressings, soy sauce etc for stirfrys)
DESERT if still hungry
unlimited diet jelly
Forme yoghurt
berries with milk
I also have to take
1 x thermoburn tablet twice a day with food
3 x 1000mg fish oil tabs twice a day
4 x Vit D tablets
1 x mulit B
I have heard from another bandit that my dietician is kinda blase with how strict it is. Im having no problems following it besides dizziness/lightheadedness at work on first day and feeling nauseous for a few hours last night. That said I have lots of energy today.
