Hi there,
I am a newbie and any helpful info about banding in general and if it has any affects on people who have IBS would be appreciated. I am a 42yo mother of 4 and have struggled with my wieght since my mid teens, i saw Dr Dolan last year and was on his wait list for banding but then he stopped doing public patients so i gave up on that until a friend told me about the BMI Centre in Joondalup, so yesterday i went for a GP appointment and saw Dr Kruger who seems very nice, tomorrow i am off to have my blood test done and then on thursday to have a liver ultra sound done which i have been told is common practice. I have an appointment booked on the 29th Feb with Surgeon Dr Yong and have been told that he will require me to see a dietician and hopefully he will be able to give me date for banding. What questions should i be asking when i see him? I am looking forward to taking control my life back and being the happy confident person i know i can be.........can't wait.

Thanks :D

Hi Katrina,
Congrats and good luck with everything! I can't comment on how the band helps with IBS, but I can tell you that seeing a dietitian was a fantastic experience for me. Ask for any paperwork they can provide with menus, recipes, facts and figures for pre-surgery and then post-surgery (liquids, mushies, solids). I asked my dietitian to give me a sample menu that I could follow with minor adjustments as needed and it's been fantastic. Another bandit emailed me some stuff from her dietitian which I have no issue sending your way if you'd like as well (just PM me your email address). I think getting facts and figures is important too - how much protein should you be having, etc. I asked about multivitamins, etc. and whether my changed diet and decreased amount of food would impact upon levels of vitamins and minerals.
Sorry if this is an overload of info but I think if you go into your appointment with a few starting points you should find it as informative as I did...

ok well i didnt have IBS but i used to get the symptoms all the time but never was diagnosed... dont really like doctors much! anyways now because i dont eat much i dont really get them except when i eat those foods that always upset it.... for me it is cheese, corn, peas, wheat, etc.... i think that it is fantastic... life is so much easier now as i dont have to worry when going out places and i know mine was a bit different i used to be on the toilet for a few hours every morning and always stressed out about getting to appointments on time... now i havent stopped eating my fav foods i just eat them when i have nothing the next couple of hours of that day or the next morning... best advice is keep away from those foods that upset it and you will be fine! once i was on the optifast shakes it took 48 hours for the symptoms to go away then only when i eat the foods that upset it... otherwise it is great! Degas is my best friend... helps a lot when you got that bloated pain in your stomach! at least after the first few weeks when you start to eat normal again it helps...
hope this info helps...

Am going with Dr. Basson and am due to be banded on 17th May. I met with him on 25th January and he gave me my date at that appointment.
Seems like such a short wait but I am soooo impatient and just want to get it done so I can get on with my life.
