Hi there
I was banded on mon and believe I have a 10ml band with no fil. I was extra cautious for day one and two but can now drink a full optifast in 10-15 mins no probs. Is this too fast? Will it stretch my pouch?
Am having An Opti or two and two homemade soups a day (about 1cup) plus one coffee (instant) which I don't finish.
Am starting to feel a bit hungry too.
Any feedback much appreciated!
Vic

I feel the exact same way and can do the exact same thing!
I think we need some more fill soon....
I am curious about the pouch strectching too. I am eating too fast - I know it.

Hi Vic
My understanding is that if your post op swelling has gone down ... Usually takes probably a week or so and you have no fill in your band .... Then liquid does go straight through, it does not sit above the band. Sipping when you are early post op is because of swelling inhibiting the liquids sliding on through. This is also why the band can be cheated ... Milkshakes etc are calorific and slide on through the band.
We need to modify our eating, eat healthy small portions and avoid rubbish that slides through the band. Ah ... The banding journey!!

Hiya Jan, I know what you mean about the calorific drinks! Everything I've had has been well within limits but i can see how it would be easy to slowly melt a lindt choccy in your mouth - and I'm not even a chocolate person!
I have had that feeling of fullness in my chest while drinking and am certainly not gulping. I suppose I'm just concerned that while what im drinking is fine, I'm drinking too much in volume and I can't recognize if I'm at risk of stretching the pouch (I feel like a marsupial every time I refer to my pouch!).
Hey there marystime, nice to know I'm not the only one experiencing this. Hope your otherwise well.
Cheers

Was it you're dietitian who suggested you stay on the Optifast, I was only liquids for the first 2 weeks.

Hi NeddyBear,
Yes the guidelines I've been given say optifast is a good option during the first week along with soups etc. Roll on mushies!

Neddy you will find lots of variations between surgeons or dieticians regarding post op diets. I was told liquids 2 weeks mushy food 2 weeks, others have been told 2 week liquids /shrug lol confusing huh

Hi Vic,
Welcome to the Bandit world
I had my lap band replaced (due to a slippage) on Tuesday 21st Feb and am halfway through my liquid stage (then move on to 2 weeks of mushies). So im doing all of this for the second time around!
I wouldnt stress too much, as some one said earlier, after a few days the swelling of your stomach around your band will setlle down and you can drink comfortably. I highly doubt you'll cause your pouch to stretch, you'd only manage to do this if you were eating solid foods this early on.
Try mixing up your liquids a little bit, i alternate between Up & Go Vive (low sugar ones) for breakfast, Musashi slm low fat high protien shakes for lunch or optislim shakes, and usually V8 Fruit & Veg juice for dinner. I throw some soup in there occasionally too and sip water slowly in between "meals". I usually have about 125ml of each liquid for my meal, which is half a serving. I hardly ever feel hungry during the day!
Good luck with everything
