A question always on ones mind when thinking about banding is costs. So I hope no one minds but I was thinking maybe we could start a topic whereby we update the costs as we go along the journey and what Dr's etc... so that others seeing the same Drs will have an idea what they are looking at.

Month of banding: Apr-12
Surgeon: Dr Yong
Hospital: Joondalup Health Campus - Perth
Public/Private: Public
Health Insurance: No
Concession Card: No

Here are my costs to date:

Gp Appointment $ 90.00
Medicare Rebate $ 69.00
Net Cost $ 21.00

Surgeon Appointment $ 170.00
Medicare Rebate $ 71.40
Net Cost $ 98.60

BMI Clinic Appointment $ 120.00
Medicare Rebate $ 69.00
Net Cost $ 51.00

Ultrasound $ 170.00
Medicare Rebate $ 111.30
Net Cost $ 58.70 \

Blood Tests $ 83.95
Medicare Rebate $40.00
Net Cost $43.95

BMI After Care Fee $ 1,250.00
Medicare Rebate $ -
Net Cost $ 1,250.00

NET COST TO DATE $ 1,479.30

can be a lot cheaper bulk bill gp, blood tests are usually bulk billed as well so thats unusual. and i believe the new bmi clinic bulk bills as well with no after care costs. danielle can you confirm this?
as far as i know its just the ultrasound you pay for.

I spoke with Dr. Yongs office on Thursday and his assistant indicated that the wait list with Dr. Yong is about June/July.

The GP I see only bulk bills patients that have a concession card. With the blood test I got sent a bill havent gone to medicare yet, so I dont know how much I will get back.
The BMI clinic charges a $1250 admin fee, this is for your aftercare and they bulk bill all fills etc...

Initially I was told I would be banded in June but because I have some health issues the date was bought forward to April.

ohhh dear i feel they are telling me June /July as a latest scenario.... Its annoying me as I handed in all letters that Dr Yong needed on the 3rd of February. When I called on the 7th the Receptionist said Jun/July earliest!!! So I dont know what to believe??? I have heard of people going in for the lap band op in april with dr yong,,,these people saw him in the same week????? I would really like a certain date as I have UNI and 2 kids to make arrangements for and my Husband works away!!! I need organisation.

Hi!
Ive just been banded by Dr Dolan at Glengarry hospital. My first appointment was the 17th Jan, banding date 16th Feb. I'm a private patient with HBF (not top hospital) and have no concessions.
Cost so far are:

GP - bulkbilled

Bloodtests - bulkbilled

Dietician - no appointments available pre-op, I'm seeing her the 16th March

Ist appointment with Dr Dolan $170 (got $71.40 back from medicare)

Dr Dolan Admin fee: $1000 (not claimable thru medicare of HBF)

In hospital: I had a $100 HBF excess to pay on admission, $64 for TED stockings and these foot pump thingos whilst in hospital, and I'm expecting a bill from the pharmacy for discharge medication - prob around $75.

So not too bad so far!

Hi, i am seeing Dr Yong on 29th of feb and so far have been to GP at BMI centre and was bulk billed, had blood tests done which were bulk billed to Medicare and am having liver ultra sound done on thursday which the GP has requested be bulk billed because i asked him if he could and i figure if you don't ask you don't get, i would assume DR Yong being a specialist doesn't bulk bill but i will be cheeky and ask anyway and then i will need to make an appointment with a dietitian and i read a post on here somewhere that you can ask your GP for some type of dietitian care program that is covered by medicare (if anyone knows more about this please le tme know) so i have no costs to date but will update after i see Dr Yong :)
