Because I have been eating a lot less I am concerned that I might be developing a vitamin deficiency.
I was banded six months ago and read on these boards that some people were taking multi vitamins after the op. Well, I forgot all about that. Frankly the band didn't work too great for the first few months and I could eat pretty much what I wanted.
Well, after my last fill in Jan it finally is working - but all of a sudden half my hair has fallen out. I have heaps of hair so it is not noticiable really but I am a little scared.

omg, I was just thinking about this today - I have thick long hair and its falling out by the handful whenever I wash it and then have to brush it out. Being low in iron and B group vitamins seems to be a catalyst for this - I'm taking a liquid iron supplement again and a womens multi as we are looking at getting pregnant later this year :)

I spoke to my surgeon about this as a concern of mine. He explained that often what is noticed is not hair loss, but lack of new hair growth. As our intake of nutrients decrease, our body redirects the incoming nutrients to other places of need - new hair growth not being one of them. He said that hair loss continues on its normal cycle, but our body stops growing new hair, so we notice the loss.

www.bandbuddies.com.au sell the chewable multi-vitamins that are recommended. You could also take a complementary medication that promotes hair/skin/nail growth available from the chemist.....don't know how good these are....but might be worth a shot!

I think the hair loss or lack to grow new hair is due to reduced protein in your diet so it is important that everthing is proetin based. Snack on protein food and good protein with meals.

Hi girls, I'll tell you what has worked for me (and a few other bandits I've recommended it to)
Fusion Health MultiVitamin & Fusion Health Women's Balance. (They also do a Hair Tonic, but I recommend the Women's Balance because it also helps with crazy moods, TTOM etc as well!) I'm upto 3 fills, and still have had no issue swallowing the tablets :)
I work in a health food shop, so have put lot's of people on this combination and it's worked brilliantly. Also, it's actually the combination they used to treat the little girl with alopecia that was on today tonight not long ago if anyone saw it :)
If you go anywhere for advice, just make sure you do tell them you have a band, as often in a pharmacy they will recommend silicea for hair growth, but one of it's functions is actually to rid the body of 'impurities' (eg splinters) so us bandits have to be careful there xx

Hi there,
the last month or so, I have been experiencing the same thing - hair falling out by the fist full. Given how stressful my life has been, people always joked that I will be grey by the time I am 25... well I was worried I wouldn't have hair by that point at the rate it has been falling out! I spoke to one of the drs at the clinic where I was banded and she said that it was an increase of shedding not hair loss. New hair is slowly growing in it's place. It can be caused by a slowing of metabolic rate as I haven't been eating regularly during the day. She said weight training would also help increase my metabolic rate. I have just started taking Swisse Hair Skin Nails and haven't noticed a difference in my hair but my skin is actually looking nicer so I will keep taking it just for that :) I have always had long, thick hair and it isn't noticeable to anyone but me. It is still a concern but I am trying not to stress about it - most people on here who have experienced this had their hair grow back. Fingers crossed :)

I am also going out to buy a multi vitamin tomorrow - I am only 19 but feel I would benefit from a bit of a boost. I have an appointment on Wednesday with my GP so I will run things by her.
