Hi all,
Just wanted to see how everyone was going with setting goals.
I started this whole process at 142.3kg, 173cm tall and only 23!
Today is 2 weeks post surgery for me and i have officially lost 12.5kgs. I set myself a goal to lose 12kgs by Christmas this year i am very pumped that i have been able to do it in a month instead.
In terms of setting goal weights - is this something that you have spoken with your surgeon/dietician about or is it something that you have instilled upon yourself?
My new goal is to lose another 10kgs by Christmas again. I am hoping that this is certainly achievable but I am just really wary of setting goals that are too high for myself as i dont want to disappoint myself as i have done for the several years that have just passed.
Looking forward to your comments.
Regards,
Nyssa

When setting up my surgery my dr told me I hopefully if I do ask instructed should be able to loose 70~80 kilos over 2 yrs hopefully within the first yr tho so I guess he has given me goals to work too, I see him (dr Dolan) in 2 1/2 weeks but over the past 2 weeks and until I see him he has given me a soft goal of 4kilos in that month but he wants me to push for 8. I have 3 kilos more to loose in the 2 weeks to make the 8 kilo this month challenge. But I guess you can set your own

I haven't had the goal discussion with my surgeon but am aiming for 1kg per week over the course of a year. I have achieved this before without the band (haven't been able to keep it all off so hence the band). I know that if I eat well and exercise regularly I can manage this, one big difference this time my band. Woo Hoo here I go on the ride of a lifetime. My big aim is a halter neck once piece that I look great in at the beach next summer. Good luck to all

Hi Nyssa,
Congratulations on your loss so far, you should be very pleased with yourself. I think you will find that most people have a goal that has been set by their surgeon and then a personal goal. For some the personal goal for weight loss is higher than the surgeons goals and for others it is less. Most surgeons will suggest a 60% of excess weight loss. Using myself as an example: Start weight 100kg, healthy weight 51kg, that gives an excess weight of 49 kg. So 60% of that is 29.5kg. 100kg - 29.5kg = 70.5kg.
I know for myself, my GP said she would be happy if I made it under 80kg (and I have, woo.) My surgeon set the 70.5kg goal and I have a personal goal of 63kg.
As a added twist on things my psychologist has agreed that I should be setting weight goals, but has recommended that I do no set time/ date goals as that added pressure of reaching a certain goal by a specific date sends me a bit coo-coo and I end up rebelling and eating all the wrong things. That being said 10kg by Christmas is not an unrealistic goal to set for yourself. I hope that you have a lot of success.

I also had Dr Dolan as a surgeon, and was told to expect a 60% loss of excess weight over 2 years. I was also told that 1/2kg a week is the ideal weight loss to strive for, as it is a healthy amount to lose per week.
While I had decided to lose ALL of my excess weight, I didn't put a timeline on myself, as I know deep down I get disheartened and discouraged if I don't make it, but that is just me.
Well done for all of you that have achieved your goals, amazing work!!!

I have my own personal goal to lose 60 kilos in 60 weeks, so far i have been banded for 18 weeks and i have lost 40 kilos so im hoping that i will defantly be able to do my goal with time left over, my Dr gave me 3 goals 1ST was to get to 104 kilos (which i have) 2ND is to get to 73 kilos (which im working on atm around or so another 25 kilos to get there) and the 3RD if i wish to lose more weight is to get to 65 kilos. If i lose my 60 kilos that i want to it will bring me down to 77 kilos which i would be so happy with. congrates and Good luck with your weight loss

I was told by Dr D that if I get to 80 he will carve off the excess skin and fat, so that is what I am aiming for
