My Journey...
I decided to get banded when I reached at my heaviest during pregnance 135kg... Once I'd had my son I got down to 127 and that was all I could manage on my own. I knew after trying to lose weight my whole life that I needed to make a decision to live and be here for my son.
I became banded in December 2010 at 127kg.
In the first three months I had three adjustments and lost 13.9Kg, the following three months three adjustments again and lost a further 21.7kg, the three months after that I had six adjustments and lost 6.2kg, and in the last few months I have had another 4 adjustments and lost 8.2kg. As you can see it has not been easy for me to find a green zone... during all these adjustments I had thoughts like maybe Its not for me if I can't find the elusive "Green Zone" ;p
But I was never going to give up, my surgeon is fantastic and even though i felt silly at times having a fill and going back the next day as it was too tight he never swayed in his encouragement to help along my weight loss Journey. He now considers me one of his great success's which is encouraging to hear and makes me feel proud.
I Have never once just relied on my band to lose weight which is I think the major reason I have lost 50kg to date. I started walking as soon as I was out of hospital albeit slow at first and not very far but this progressed to returning to the Gym and taking on Personal Training sessions twice a week. In August 8 months after being banded I decided to take it one step further and join Bootcamp... OMG what was I thinking lol but as hard as I found boot camp I felt sooo good after the session. So with the help of my Personal trainer, walking attending Boot camp twice a week I managed to further my weight loss journey and come closer to my goal.
Again this has not been a walk in the park as many people percieve having a lap band to be, I have had night coughs, heart burn, reflux, shoulder pain, dehydration, just to name a few problems I've had to deal with throughout this journey.
I think the biggest rewards for me so far are
* No more medications
*Being able to buy clothes off a rack (even though I still walk through the plus size sections force of habit)
*Being able to put the tray down in front of me and not only be comfortable but have space on the plane
* I finally feel like I'm smaller than my partner (this one is a biggy for me)
* I can play with my son and not get puffed out
and many many many many other reasons but I need not go on I think the picture is pretty clear.
I am proud of myself for how far I have come. And I want my advice to be "Work hard, focus, if you lose focus just get it again, don't beat yourself up if you slip up, eveyone makes mistakes, the band is here to help and you will make it to your goal.....Never Never Never Give up"
oh and one more thing before I get back to work... Banding Together is a wonderful place for advice, support and I am always available should anyone send me messages for help, or advice based on my own experiences.
