I just called the Dr's surgery to see if there was any problems with my ultrasound I had last week. The have noted I have a a fatty liver. I know this is why we have to have the opti, but will this delay anything. I am really scared they might try and cancel or defer the surgery.

TIA.

Thanks Dingosrun, hopefully the fact I have started opti so early (5 weeks to go) it will help the situation more.

I've had a fatty liver since day one. My liver results have been all over the place and has taken me off work so many times but they still did multiple surgery's on me. Good news is with weight loss is goes down too.

My surgeon told me the main reason they like to put you on the liver shrinking diet is because the liver sits over the stomach, and if its nice and lean they can just flip it out of the way, no complications. If its especially fatty it gets in the way and could prolong the surgery.

Most overweight people and many others in fact have fatty livers! It just means your liver is storing some fat in it. Skinny alcoholics also have fatty livers. :). A fatty liver is an indicator of the liver working hard through fatty diet or toxins like alcohol. Some medication also causes a fatty liver like HIV medication and anti- acne meds for eg.

The reason they are interested in them is that with fatty liver disease the liver can become enlarged and hence the Opti pre-op, it,really helps the liver dump fat and reduce in size.

I have fatty liver also. The ultrasound picked that up but my blood tests says its ok I suffer from
Heachromatosis which effects the liver also.. The optifast helps detox your liver and reduce the fat.. Good luck on your journey
