when do you get 1st fill

Hi everyone, I know I'm being a bit premature but I never thought to ask the Dr!
At what stage do you get your 1st fill, I know I have a 10ml band but don't know if they put any fill into it in theatre.

I am now at the mushy stage, I am not having any trouble with it, I don't feel the slightest bit hungry! I do feel a sort of fullness after 1/2 cup mush, maybe it's wind behind the food, that's what it feels like anyway.
it's hard to describe. I'm doing a lot of burping.

cheers
Linda

Hi Linda,

The first fill is different for everybody. I had mine 6 and a half weeks after the operation, but did have a 4ml fill put in during the op. I know of people who get their first fill as early as 2 or 3 weeks after the operation. Best thing to do is call your surgeon and ask!

Cheers,
Dom

Every surgeon and every person is different. If you aren't getting hungry that's a good thing!

I got mine at four weeks at a 1 mill interval. Gradually working up to 6 mill over the last six months. Now this the warning that no one else gave me.

If you have a fill and you start to vomit or you have any other associated problems, go back to the doctor and get some of the fill out. I ended up in casualty on Wednesday night vomiting blood as well as my lovely risotto and as a result lost all of my fill. I am now back to the beginning, three weeks out from Christmas and packing death that all the hard work I have done will be undone with one Christmas dinner.

Apparently this is what the surgeons do to give you stomach a rest and let it recover when its irritated.

Thanks for that bit of information, I am learning fast that patience is the key word with fill's
I had my first one 2 weeks ago and get another one next Friday, 11th , I have no restriction at all at the moment,
I did however swallow a piece of sausage the other day that hurt like hell going down. must learn to Chew! chew! chew!

I know that I don't have any fill from the operation, however, I am still to get my first fill. I was operated on 30.09.09. Last appointment I had lost 2.2kg, which they said was enough to not have any fill. They expect me to loos 0.5 - 1.0kg per week. As I had lost 2.2 in 1 month, their was no need for a fill.
So today is my next appointment and I am hoping I get a fill as I have no restriction and I am having to stop myself from eating too much.
Will keep you posted.
Tara :)

Just to keep you upto date. I got my first fill today after 10 weeks from operation.
I weighed exactly the same to the point as 4 weeks ago, so he put in 2mls. Back to liquids today and mushie tomorrow and Friday, then slowly back to normal foods.
OH, for those interested, it didn't hurt at all. Small prick. Blood bank is worse for pain. :)

I am actually going in for my 2nd fill on friday, I would have been banded less than 8 weeks,
I had no restriction after 1st fill, I am hoping to get some this time as my weight loss is slowing right down.
